I bought an iPod Touch last month. Since the last time I plugged it into the computer to recharge it, it won't play any songs I downloaded from the iTunes store - it acts as if it's playing the song, but all I hear is static, no matter how high I turn up the volume. Songs I ripped from CDs or downloaded from other sources are fine. What's going on?

I rear-ended somebody with my car. Twist: I'm moving in a week... background inside.

This morning I set my kitchen counter on fire. The only real damage is that an empty plastic bag of shredded cheese has melted to the counter, which I
think is made of Formica or similar. Is there a good way to clean this?

I've been self-studying Spanish for a while. While my reading comprehension and my vocabulary are good, and my grammar isn't bad. I can even largely understand the people I come in contact with. But, when it comes to my end of the conversation I totally freeze up. Has anyone been in similar straits, and what can I do about it?

What anime have I been missing out on in the last 5-6 years? I used to be pretty into anime (around 1998-2000) but since 2001 I haven't seen much of anything--for not knowing what to watch, or having the money to watch it...

Community service: I have an assignment for school to do 3 hours of volunteer work. Anywhere I can find wants a longer commitment than that, and unfortunately, 3 hours is the most free time I can spare this semester. I've checked Volunteermatch. Any ideas? (I'm in Chapel Hill, NC, and don't drive; I have few real skills).

I've started studying Mandarin. In a couple weeks I'll be going on vacation to a city where I should be able to pick up some CDs of pop music in Mandarin. What should I get? Clear voices (not drowned out by instruments or distortion) are a plus; I dislike rap; otherwise I'm open to anything.

How do you stay awake, alert and keep from getting bored or broody when your work is extremely repetitive? I have an iPod, but no internet/computer access at work.

Having read the other "I want to buy a bike" posts, I'll be quick: Would a new bike in the $200-250 range be so low-end as to be worthless for a 3-mile daily commute? Would I be better off with a used one? I'm the opposite of a serious cyclist.

My job involves a lot of repetitive motion and I type way too much outside of work. I've had RSI issues in the past, and I want to strengthen my wrists/arms/shoulders so that they don't flare up again. Any recommended books or web sites where I can find RSI-specific exercises?
(Yes, yes, I know. Just Type Less. Assume for the moment that's not an option).

If you were somehow stupid enough to lose every piece of identification you had--driver's license, green card, social security card, foreign passport and birth certificate, student ID, everything--how would you go about starting to recover it? You seem to need two pieces of ID (or at least one) to get any given ID replaced.

I am a bad singer, although I really like to sing; we are talking William Hung levels of badness. Are there any good books or online resources? Is it worth it to get voice lessons if I just want to not embarrass myself at church and at karaoke? And just how much singing talent is inborn?

Help! I have less than one week to memorize a 5-minute speech for a contest--in Japanese. Most of what I can find on Google tells me not to bother with memorization, but the contest rules say I have to have it memorized verbatim. I have about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes memorized so far, but they're not solid yet. Does anyone have some tips for memorization?
