Bye Daddy! Bye Daddy! Bye Daddy!

I'm looking for a funny commercial. I can't remember the company or the product, but the central character is a dad, wearing a shirt and tie and sitting at the breakfast table. As he silently reads the paper and eats his breakfast, he is surrounded by his wife and four or five teenage daughters who mill in and out of the room, all chatting and talking over each other and laughing.

It's Down At The End of Lonely Street

San Francisco's Hugo Hotel, the current home of Brian Goggin's Defenestration, has been seized by eminent domian and will probably be demolished. Fear not; San Francisco has many other ancient hotels.

Mama Don't Take My Kodachrome

Your Rights As A Photographer: As most of us are no doubt aware, the right to take photographs in the United States is being challenged more than ever--people are being stopped, harassed, and even intimidated into handing over their personal property simply because they were taking photographs of subjects that made other people uncomfortable. Recent examples have included photographing industrial plants, bridges, buildings, trains, and bus stations. Print and carry this pamphlet in your wallet, pocket, or camera bag to give you quick access to your rights and obligations concerning confrontations over photography. [via]

Good Night, And Good Luck, And Goodbye.

We've already had several, and we don't need any more links to Keith Olbermann ranting. By now we're all well aware of Keith Olbermann and his editorial opinions, and links to his most recent outraged rant don't belong on MetaFilter just like editorial rants by Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, or Andy Rooney don't belong here.

Unmasking D.B. Cooper: On a rainy night in 1971, the notorious skyjacker jumped out of a 727 and into American legend. But a chance lead to a Manhattan P.I. may have finally cracked the case, despite the fact this isn't the first time someone has claimed to be D.B. Cooper.

And So Castles Made of Sand Fall In The Sea Eventually

Castle Kashan, the castle on the hills above Malibu, is gone. The home of an Iranian oil minister's daughter, Castle Kashan was built in 1977, appeared in episodes of The Rockford Files, and was the setting for numerous weddings and the Malibu Film Festival. Fret not, America has lots of other castles. Canada, too! (previously on MetaFilter)

October 14, 1947

There was a demon that lived in the air. They said whoever challenged him would die. Their controls would freeze up, their planes would buffet wildly, and they would disintegrate. The demon lived at Mach 1 on the meter, seven hundred and fifty miles an hour, where the air could no longer move out of the way. He lived behind a barrier through which they said no man could ever pass. They called it the sound barrier.

Will Work For Work

I'm looking for a post--either on the front page or in Ask MetaFilter--about a website that offered work-for-trade, or work-for-services, or some such. I remember the site could be used, for example, by a bricklayer and a painter, where the painter needed a new patio and the bricklayer needed his house painted--sort of an eBay for trade skills. I can't remember if it was an FPP, or a link posted as part of a comment, or an answer to an AskMetaFilter question. Anyone?

House Of The Sizing For One

Dirk Dieter, an industrial and exhibit designer, paid $101,000 in 1999 for a 250-square-foot house built on a triangular lot at the end of a dead-end street in Pacifica. Built in 1954, the little house was probably a warming shed for local fishermen, but Dieter's modest yet dramatic renovation has transformed the house into a marvel of space-saving design, inspired him to formulate strategies and design furniture for streamlined living, and brought a recent appraisal of $375,000. Plagiarists Are Stupid. Throw Lawsuits At Them!

Mike Tyndall is maintaining a page detailing all of the striking similarities between Todd Goldman's "art" and the original work of legitimate artists. (previously discussed on MetaFilter) Now, the image for which Goldman attracted a substantial amount of press and fame and upon which he built his profitable David And Goliath Tees company--his "Boys Are Stupid, Throw Rocks At Them" work--may have been partially copied from the portfolio of Chip Wass.

Full Frontal Nugity

Some time back, I read a brief article about Ted Nugent buying a new logo, either for an album or a tour. The logo was a skull and crossbones, but the bones were guitar necks, and when the logo was unveiled to Mr. Nugent for the first time, he said, "This is a motherfucker". I can't find it on any of his albums. Anyone know where I can find the logo?
