Bye Daddy! Bye Daddy! Bye Daddy!

I'm looking for a funny commercial. I can't remember the company or the product, but the central character is a dad, wearing a shirt and tie and sitting at the breakfast table. As he silently reads the paper and eats his breakfast, he is surrounded by his wife and four or five teenage daughters who mill in and out of the room, all chatting and talking over each other and laughing.

Type On A Spine

When books are placed on a shelf, why do some books have their spine title and author type reading downward, and others have upward-reading type?

I Will Give You Ahhhht!

I'm looking for a funny commercial--it was something about web design, or designers, and it was a series of scenes from the client's perspective, shot from behind a desk, and the web designers were presenting their proposals for the client's site.

Full Frontal Nugity

Some time back, I read a brief article about Ted Nugent buying a new logo, either for an album or a tour. The logo was a skull and crossbones, but the bones were guitar necks, and when the logo was unveiled to Mr. Nugent for the first time, he said, "This is a motherfucker". I can't find it on any of his albums. Anyone know where I can find the logo?

Look Out Honey, 'Cause I'm Usin' Technology

I posted some items for sale on Craigslist, and shortly thereafter I got email from a typical scammer who wanted to send me and have me cash a check from "his client," and I'd refund him the balance--you know, the textbook overpayment with a fake check scam. Now, I'd like to have some fun with this.

In The Middle of the Road You See The Darndest Things

How do I build a loud 12V stereo system--to play mp3s from my iPod--for my bicycle?

He told me in heaven that every everything is fine

Let's assume (no soapbox rants, please!) global warming is a reality, the ice covering Greenland is melting, and the ocean's levels are rising. If I own a home and land which, according to this map, would be underwater, what--if anything--would the government do? I live near a major (federal) interstate, two major shipping ports, and a rail corridor linking the two. San Francisco and Oakland International Airports would also be underwater. What happens? Would they build a gigantic dike, like New Orleans and Holland? Is my home and the land on which it's built a total loss? If so, insurance-wise, is this considered an "Act of God"? If I was to put my home on the market tomorrow, must I declare global warming and the rising ocean levels as a possibility for flooding?

That's Good Sheet, Man

What is the proper order and nomenclature for numbering architectural drawings? Typically, you break up drawings into different types of views: floorplans, sections, details, and elevations--both outside and

Make Your Own Screen Saver for Mac?

How do I make my own animated screensaver? I have some graphics I've been using as desktop backgrounds, and now I'd like to make them into an animated screen saver. I'm fluent in Photoshop and Illustrator, and I'm on a Mac running OSX 10.2.

Auto-Update Ate My iPod

I had several gigs worth of music on my iPod, with a smaller subset with some of that music on my Mac. When I attached my iPod to my machine, it was set to auto-update...and now the music on my iPod is gone, and I've just got the smaller subset! Is there a way to recover the music? How do I do it? Help!

Name That Tune

What's the music in the (International #1) trailer for The World's Fastest Indian? It's the guitar riff that begins right after the line, "It's what we're here for"--cut to a shot of a red vehicle speeding down the Bonneville Salt Flat. It's used again after the zoom-in on Anthony Hopkins and the VO, "Burt Monro's not ready to finish yet, I'll tell you that mate." Quicktime: small, large.

Bigger Than Big, Taller Than Tall

PhotoshopFilter: How does one add resolution to an image? My current image size is 3'w x 2'h at 100dpi. The finished image needs to be roughly 10' x 7.5' (possibly bigger) at 100dpi. If I just scale it up or add dpi, I'll have noticable pixelization.

Smoke From The Squatter

One of my roommates put a pot of chicken on the stove and went downstairs to make some phone calls and answer email and while we were drinking beer on the porch we heard a strange, high-pitched, shrieking whine.

Operator, oh could you help me place this call?

What exactly is this device, and can I/how do I/what do I need to get it to work as the voicemail/multiple phone line server I think it is?

Bicycle! Bicycle!

I'm thinking about riding my bicycle from San Francisco to New York City next summer. Has anyone here done it? What should I know? What routes do you recommend? On which highways and interstates are bicycles allowed? What special things should I see? How do I build a solar-powered charger for a cell phone? I'd spend this year planning, training, and saving money, so I have some time to prepare.

Damn Kids! Filter: The wall behind my building...

Damn Kids! Filter: The wall behind my building faces an industrial and unincorporated area of the town, and it's prime real estate for spray-painting, vandalism, and the sort of activity in which teenage hooligans and ruffians (*cough*karma returns*cough*) tend to engage. I don't much care if kids spray-paint back there--I just don't want them painting the windows or leaving their empty paint cans and beer bottles back there.

So I was thinking a way to discourage them would be to plant some thorny, prickly, brambly-type stuff back there--ideally, it's something that doesn't need tending, isn't poisonous, and has lots of thorns and prickly things. I'd rather not install motion-sensing security lights; I'd just like to make painting my wall a difficult experience. Any ideas or suggestions for non-poisonous brambly, prickly, thorny plants?
