Ask post: Did a gmail update break greasemonkey?
For those having trouble with Gmail Manager, a new version with the patch included is already out (direct link). It's been working great for me.

the Lady of Guadalupe- aka the Virgin Mary who appeared to some Mexican children back in the 1500s.

You've confused two Virgins. The Lady of Fatima is the one who appeared to some (Portuguese) children. The Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego.

Ask post: I like Mana - who else do I like?
Good suggestions so far. I'd especially recommend Shakira, Los Enanitos Verdes, Jaguares, Moenia and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs.

You should also look for Sombrero Verde, which is what Mana used to call themselves.
posted to Ask Metafilter by Penks at 7:50 PM on May 22, 2007
If you're still reading this, I've just remembered some more. Azul Violeta was started by two of the original members of Mana and, while not as popular, it's still good.

Another band you should like is Fobia, especially their first two albums.

Two more you should listen to: Plastilina Mosh and Molotov. They're not at all like Mana, but you'll probably like them. They both sing in English and Spanish.... [more]

Ask post: Crawling through Monterrey
I'm not completely sure what you're asking for, so if you can be more specific, I might be able to help you more. These are all places with loud music in English:

Kokoloco is good on Fridays, but very crowded and it's not easy to get a table.

Nirvana has great music and is not so crowded on weekdays.

Cafe Iguana may also be what you're looking for. (Link has sound).

Ask post: Cool product idea to introduce in Mexico (Marketing Project)
How about a mix for making micheladas(wikipedia)?

This product already exists (invented by my brother and one of his friends, actually), but if it doesn't have to be a new product this could be a good project. If you google michelada you will find a ton of info — especially if you can read Spanish.

Ask post: Translate this wedding toast into Spanish
You've gotten great answers already, but I'd go with Memo's because it flows more naturally. vacapinta's right, though; the liquor joke doesn't translate well at all. So I'd lose that part. Also, I agree with changing amorosas mascotas to cariñosas mascotas or just mascotas.

If you decide to go with mynameismandab's suggestion, I'd recommend these changes:

Ask post: Dare I talk on the train?
I don't commute, so take this with a grain of salt, but I agree with AmbroseChapel.

With anybody that I see regularly, what I do is nod or smile at them for a while, then after a couple of weeks (or maybe a month or even more) I progress to a 'Hey' or 'Hi', then after a while maybe a 'What's up?' or something similar and before long I'm having conversations even with the security guard at a 7-11.... Ask post: Travelling to Mexico with booze...
As others have said, you can get booze almost anywhere (including any supermarket or Wal-Mart) and it's cheaper than in the US.

If by "near Coba" you mean Tulum, you should know there is no electricity on the beach, although many hotels have a generator running for three to four hours every night. If you don't mean Tulum, I really recommend you go there at least for a day -- it's the most beautiful beach I've ever seen.

Ask post: How do I turn a successful World Cup blog into a soccer groupblog?
I love the tutorial idea as a feature, as skepticallypleased said.

Regarding the leagues you should focus on, matteo's got it. But you should also consider the Mexican league and maybe even the MLS. I'm guessing that the Mexican league has more followers in the US than the MLS, and it's also one of the highest paying leagues in the world (that's the biggest reason why you don't see many Mexicans playing outside of Mexico).

Control Machete is good, but far from vibrant or upbeat.

A song you might like is "Mentirosa" by Elefante; not really upbeat, but it is vibrant.

I agree with Methylviolet. If the letter seems right in a week, go ahead and send it; if it doesn't, you just averted a bigger problem.

I had already gone to bed, but the answer I gave you kept bugging me.

It's not entirely clear from your post, but if your friendship with him is completely lost because of your rejection, then send the letter. You have nothing else to lose there, except probably getting an angry response from him, for which you should be prepared.

But if the friendship can still be salvaged, my previous advice (or rather Methylviolet's) still stands: Wait a week or two.

I use the Spanish configuration on my laptop keyboard. The accent is right next to the "p". You hit "accent key" and then the vowel to get it. í - Alt+161

Ask post: Cheap vacation in Mexico? Somewhere in California? Somewhere else?
If you can get a good airfare to Cancun, Playa del Carmen is a great place to go (I'm flying there on Thursday). Much cheaper than Cancun, great weather year round, beautiful beaches, amazing food, and you can find cheap tours to some fantastic, historic places.

frogan, I thought about responding to you, but why the fuck should I bother. Obviously nothing I say will make you any less of an asshole, so I won't even try.

Ask post: Dollars or Pesos?
Get pesos.

I don't think you'll have any trouble paying with dollars, but as toxic said, you'll get an exchange rate of 10 to 1 instead of almost 11 to 1. Any change you get will be in pesos, since nobody accepts American coins, not even banks.

I also recommend getting pesos at an airport ATM; those are most likely to have an English language option.

Also, you could probably call one of your local Re/Max or Century21 offices and ask for the address of their Mexico City offices.

Ask post: What is Cortes' reputation in modern Mexico?
He's talked about, but mostly as a hostile invader. Most Mexicans are very proud of the Aztec empire, and the Spanish destroyed it. Also, they took all the treasure they could get their hands on, and México was immensely rich in silver.

One thing that always comes up in conversations about Cortez is how he wouldn't have won so easiliy, if at all, if it wasn't for Moctezuma's belief that the Spanish were descendants of the gods, more specifically Qutzalcóatl. He was... [more]

There's a big difference in wanting to quit and wanting to want to quit. I also want to want to quit, but the health issues have never been enough to really convince me to do it.

What has almost made me really want to quit is something several people have addressed here, and that is the smell, especially the bad breath, which you don't always notice but other people do. All the Tic-Tacs in the world won't make your breath stop smelling like smoke,... [more]

How old are you? If you're under 40 I would suggest looking into surgery. CPAP fixes the symptoms, but not the problem. I used CPAP when I was 24 or 25 and it was very uncomfortable for me. I just didn't see myself using it every day for the rest of my life. Some time after, I had surgery (adenoids and deviated septum) and now sleep much better, snoring only when I'm drunk.

BTW, CPAP never worked for me, I would still be a zombie all day when I was using it. Surgery... [more]

8 Green (50)
3 Black ($100)

And we would use the purple ($500) if we had them to change the White, Red and Blue when the blinds are 50/100 or over.

This wouldn't work for everyone, but programming used to work for me. This was back when I still knew Pascal, but I would think of a problem to solve and then try to code it. Also, if you're trying to solve a work related problem, you could even do it openly.
