Can anyone help my find a chart or data that shows U.S. national debt as a function of time, especially with correlation to presidential administrations?

Teaser posts suck

I really hate this. But since I don't want to do the same thing, I need to explain what "this" is. "This" is writing a whole post on the front page without ever saying what the post is actually about. Teaser posts are teh suck.

Lone Star 92.5

Is this the future of non-satellite radio? So an old rock station flipped formats in the wee hours of the morning. "Lone Star 92.5 will not air traditional spots. Instead, the station will have 'sponsors' whose content will be integrated in throughout the hour [a la NPR]. Lone Star 92.5 will feature such artists as ZZ Top, The Old 97's, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and of course, Willie Nelson. In fact, the Red Headed Stranger will also serve as the voice of the station." This just might be the significant step it takes HD Radio to rise to the challenge of satellite radio. Those who claim to know radio cynically predict the new format will go down in flames. Maybe they just say that because it is a part of the universally reviled Clear Channel Communications.

Would there be a way to either determine the percentage of a user's responses to AskMe are marked as "Best Answer", and/or be able to list out only those response marked as "best answer" to be displayed as part of a user's profile?

Glenn Mitchell passes away

Glenn Mitchell passes away. If you don't live in the Dallas area or listen to KERA "on the sly," as Glenn used to say, you have no idea who Glenn Mitchell was. If he had lived a few months longer, you would have heard him on XM Radio starting in early 2006. Possibly the best interviewer of our age. He left us far to early. Check out the forum to see what he meant to his listeners. Rest in peace, Glenn.

What if I get spam from myself?

Both at work and at home, I occasionally get spam where the return address is my own. I'm guessing spammers mine for valid email addies to make their messages appear more legit, but it still kind of bothers me that spam is going out under my name. Should I be worried about this, or is it just a case of harmless techno-stress? Is there a fairly simple way of preventing this?

Calling myself out. Kind of unusual, I know. But I looked back at some of my recent comments and I realized that I've been a butthead and a troll lately. If anyone wants to take exception with my bad behavior, feel free to do so here. And in the effort to make things better- has anyone else fallen into such a rut? Any ideas about how to get out?

The blogger who came to dinner

If you were going to invite 10 bloggers for dinner, whom would you invite? John, of J-Walk Blog decided to start this new parlor game for bloggers. I tripped across it in the 1/31/05 post on Reality Carnival. It's a pretty good way to find the bloggers that the most fascinating bloggers find most fascinating. (Did that make sense?) The best bloggers define their own personal Best of the Web. [Warning- proceed only if you have several hours to kill!]

The City (1939)

The City [Parts I & II, each a 15:00+ minute realPlayer video].
An urban planning film from 1939 that takes a nostalgic look at country life, compares it to the hustle and bustle of 1930s big city life, and presents a utopian alternative. Reviews of The City, Parts I & II, can be found at the Prelinger Archives if you want to read about them before you commit to watching the 30 minute movie. I tripped across this while surfing around on the forums at Cyburbia: The urban planning portal. Also notable: Music by Aaron Copland.

Humdinga

The Gibbs Humdinga is the big brother to the Aquada, previously discussed here. I'm not sure why dg felt the Aquada's practicality as either a boat or a car leaves quite a bit to be desired, but if size was the big problem, the Humdinga addresses that.

Campin' with the net

FutureIsNowFilter "TengoInternet and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced a pilot program to offer wireless Internet service at five Texas state parks... The wireless service will allow park guests while visiting the park to access the Internet to gain park information, send e-mail or pictures, or just surf the Web, without cords having to physically plug into a network."
Shouldn't be camping be more about nature than technology?

I have a keyboard question. Is there a way in WinXP to change the definition of individual keys? My new computer has a keyboard layout that is subtly different from the old one which results in a smaller space bar and as a result I regularly hit the Alt key by mistake which pops up a menu and often leads to loss of text I've typed. Is there anyway to change another key to Alt and make the Alt key give me a space?

Philosophical question regarding opposition: When is it appropriate to leave or boycott an organization when one disagrees with its policies, as opposed to actively working with or within the organization to change its policies to your liking? Recent posts regarding gay ministers and Boy Scouts make me wonder whether boycotting organizations is the best approach, or whether one should remain within an organization in an effort to reform it?
