Do I need Shocks, Struts or both?
I would suggest looking at Honda car forums. If you want a stock suspension, there is probably a 20-year-old ricer within 50 miles that would like your suspension on his car and would even do the work (or help you do the work) to swap them out at minimum expense.

If I Make This School Better, I Can Change the World! Um, right?
No help, but interest. Mrs. Doohickie teaches in such a school. They have a couple of large-scale corporate sponsors, although they lose one of them at the end of the year due to a corporate relocation. The principal is meeting with local community and business leaders, and any good info that comes from your project would be helpful to this particular school I think.

work vehicle ideas
Dodge Sprinters have some of the worst resale value out there. I think it's simply because it is not appropriate for anything other than a work van. Since that's what you're looking for, you win!
A Dodge Sprinter is really a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, rebadged for the North American market (remember when Dodge, a part of Chrysler, was partnered with DaimlerBenz? This was a result.) So here's your chance to own a cheap Mercedes.... [more]

Costco or Sam's Club?
This is why I switched to Costco a few years back:
Costco Chief Executive Officer Jim Sinegal, 68, is a Democrat who says President Bush's $1.7 trillion in tax cuts unfairly benefit the wealthy. He opposed the Iraq war and supports Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts for president.

Politics got me in, but Nthing what everyone else says about Costco service. At my local Costco, several of the employees actually know me well enough to call me by name even when I don't have my card out. I attribute that to an overall better attitude on the part of valued workers coupled with the fact that there is far less turnover at Costco than at Sams.

Is it car abuse?
You suffered a loss, you were compensated for it. End of story.
However, if you have collision insurance on your car and they've already paid out the claim, it would probably be best just to drop the collision and just keep liability on it.

Once you get settled in, we (all of us in DFW) need to get together! Sorry, no new advice from me that hasn't already been offered, and I'm in Fort Worth so I can't comment on neighborhoods and stuff. Your dollars will go further here, I think, and UNT (is that where she is going) is a prettty good school; Mrs. Doohickie got her bachelors there.

Helping a kid deal with losing...
At first I would have said to let it ride; our son was like that. But considering it's a family trait coming from you wife, it might not be the worst idea to see a professional. In my son's case, we let him work within his comfort zone and eventualy he worked his way through it (mostly). He's a junior in high school, still a little cautious, but not nearly as afraid to try new things (and occasionally fail) as he once was.

Travelfilter: When to tip, who to tip and how much to tip?
For restaurants with table service, the "standard" if there is such a thing, is 15% of the bill. Many states have sales tax is 7-8%; you can quickly calculate the "standard" tip by doubling the tax (or if the sales tax is something different, figure out the appropriate factor). That gives a base tip amount; from there, the advice in the thread pretty much covers it- more for good service, less for bad service.
Note also that if you happen to be with... [more]

The ups and downs of teaching adolescents?
Mrs. Doohickie likes teenagers because they aren't "needy"; you don't have to do everything for them. Also, they get sarcasm. It drives her nuts when they whine when she actually expects them to work.
If you're really going to do this, understand that the kids will spend the first half of the year trying to "break you". Know that if you get past that initiation they will, eventually, respect you. If you want to teach social... [more]

How can I convince my mom that I won't get AIDS just because I'm gay?
Unprotected promiscuous sex is what cases transmission of the virus.
I think there is a perception (right or wrong) that homosexuals are more promiscuous than heterosexuals. If there is any truth to this at all, a major contributing factor is probably lack of legal standing for same-sex marriage. If mom is that worried about you, ask her to write a letter to her state representatives asking them to make same-sex marriage legal.

I think macadamiaranch is on to something here. When we first moved into our home, I used to wake up whenever the train went by. I didn't always identify it with the train, but eventually I realized that's what it was. Then, I realized a truck went by every day about about 4:30 am, but only when school was in session (it turned out it was delivering milk to the elementary school down the street). I know that "sweet" is one of the primary senses of taste, but it seems like each sweetening agent has its own baggage- combinations of other tastes that come along for the ride. A big marketing gimmic here in Texas is to sell "Dublin Dr. Pepper" which is produced in Dublin, Texas, using the old pre-corn syrup recipe that uses cane sugar as the sweetener.
