My PC has been crashing - I can move the mouse - but everything else is dead as a doornail. Apps don't respond, clock doesn't change etc. As though the display is frozen in time. Any ideas?

Slow WiFi: I have a Linksys WRTP54G Wireless Router plugged into a cable modem. When I connect my laptop to it via an ethernet cable I get downloads of 6mbps, but when I flip to the WiFi connection that drops to ~4mbps. Laptop shows an Excellent Signal Strength and a connection speed of 54Mbps. What gives? Laptop is an IBM T42 running XPSP2.

My GoogleFu has failed me. Does anyone know of a place I could send a swab of DNA from my cheek and get a photo of it back (after they do the Chomatography thing). Because I love
these but I'm too cheap and figure given the source image I could do the rest myself.

I saw a neat
clock the other day on
MoCoLoco and I was wondering process is used to get the design printed/dyed on the face. It says that it's anodized, and from my research this seems pretty straightforward, but my question is how is the printing/masking done? Are the dyes added in stages using a photomask? Or is it masked in the anodizing stage? You can see a good example of the colors

How come McDonalds cheesburgers don't have sesame seeds on them? I think the Fish thing is the only other one that doesn't have them. So why not the lowly cheeseburger?

Okay all you astronomers, I just asked this is an older MeFi thread but figured I might get a better response here.
Go back to the big bang and you start off with a single point that exploded and has kept on expanding. So when you look back in time by way of observing distant places would you not end up looking at exactly the same place (the point) no matter which direction you looked?

Okay here's a question. The other day I stepped on the bathroom scales and the number displayed was a tad on the high side, by about 15-20lbs, so my first thought was 'Yeesh, I should join a gym'. However on further reflection, having never set foot in a gym since my traumatizing school days joining one seems like quite a scary prospect. So my question is.. What's the deal with gyms? What's the ettiquette, what do you need, will all these fit gym types be chuckling at my pathetic flabby assed efforts, are the showers still those bloody communal type affairs I shudder to remember back in school?
