He looks great for a 70-year-old.
Any man who wants to be suave wants to be George Clooney. And any man who lived through the 80s would forgive him for The Facts of Life because it was the 80s.

If Grant ends up doing something else, I hope he hires an art director because he sure as hell can't do it. ND should be remembered as having the worst covers and overall photography in the history of music mag publishing, with the Lizz Wright issue taking top prize.
Plus, as evidenced by their annual critic polls, they couldn't have been farther removed from their readers as far as taste is concerned. Buncha old people trying to be cool vs. just being cool old people if... [more]

Hey! Fred Milton is still SO #1! Wow!
I would just like to say that I took the Writing the Unthinkable! course last weekend. While I don't think I gained tremendous insight into the process (don't get me wrong, I learned some new techniques) the price was worth seeing her in action. It was like a writing seminar taught via performance art.
You ever meet a kindred spirit? That was Lynda Barry for me. She's a subculture unto herself that's been influenced by all the other ones abound her.

I was gonna be all "Hey I remember crazy Jimmy too" until I saw it was my sister that made the FPP. But, hey, I'm the only one of the family soon to be freezing his ass off in this state. Alas, I was not a Skipper though.

Joybubbles R.I.P.
I am a child of the Zzzzyzzerrific Funline. Much time was spent listening to his kooky rants (and they were rants - I don't know how he got the answering machine tape to go so long) and I called frequently to hear updates. It was one of those staples you have for a little while as a kid, find something else and move on. But when I heard of his passing, another little piece of my youth went with him.

Even when JB sang about Bettie Page when I was a youth, I had no idea who she was and when I finally found out all I had to do was fall back on the song. Roped and trussed, indeed.
Scandal in Bohemia/Sex And Travel is one of my favorite CDs of all time.

Boy, I thought there would be 125 comments about how awesome Fred Astaire was. No, I get a MeTa thread about people failing to understand how language and usage evolves over time.
I watched all his old movies some 20+ years ago as a teen and thought they were "da bomb", even though there were no explosives involved. And this was before anyone even said "da bomb" so I'm lying because I really thought they were peachy keen because I've always been... [more]

From what I'm piecing together (after being glued to the TV for the last 5 hours) it sounds like the bridge went down slowly - not disintingrating instantly, but falling portion by portion. But I REALLY want to see the MNDOT camera footage.

You know why no one sings protest songs anymore? Because no one's heard of any of those musicians.
And because there's no draft. If college students thought their number was up, they'd start singing toot sweet.

I'm saying they should be. Who's going to listen to (or take seriously) old folkies from a war nearly 32 years gone? Then again, no one takes the youth vote seriously either so who knows.
But if young adults drive trends in music, then that's who should be making waves. And I would argue that there's no voice out there today who evokes the same spirit that Dylan or The Byrds had and if there is, Clear Channel's certainly not playing them on the radio. And if they did,... [more]

On one hand, if this is really a new trend, I sort of mourn not necessarily a loss of innocence, but more of it becoming a commonality.
On the other hand, why couldn't this have happened 20 years ago?!

Capt. America's Command Termintated with Extreme Prejudice
If I wasn't done with Marvel by the end of Civil War 2 weeks ago, I sure am now. I'm all for suspension of disbelief but to believe a) general rampant destruction would make make him see the light all of a sudden after years of causing general rampant destruction and b) that after X years someone (villain or not) can just shoot Captain America as he comes out of a courthouse goes beyond the pale. Plus, I hate Iron Man. Always have and to have him at the forefront leaves me cold.

I predict this will do nothing in the long term to make soccer/football a viable (read: profitable) sports industry in the US. You would think that if we really liked it, for all the kids that have played since the 70s (which, I'll wager, is greater than the combined total of kids playing baseball and football), the game would have caught on by now.

Y'know, I may be the biggest fan of the A.S.S., but this just rings hollow to me.
First, it's a softball message. Low hanging fruit, so to speak.
Second, Tie A Yellow Ribbon is a shitty song. Repurposing it doesn't make the memory of said shitty song go away. The lack of creativity reinforces point 1.
