Sri Lankan Airlines

I'm looking at flights London-Tokyo and Sri Lankan are coming up far far cheaper than anyone else. Should I be concerned about flying with them?

Jeremy Beadle, RIP

Erstwhile British TV star Jeremy Beadle died yesterday from pneumonia, aged 59, having just recently fought off kidney cancer then leukaemia. While most famous for hidden camera pranks, stunts and general cruelty, and subject of undoubtedly the funniest joke in the world (due to a birth defect), his lesser known activities included knowing just about everything, euthanasia and raising millions for charity. Love him or hate him, RIP.

Fold vs pockets vs what?

You're standing at a rock concert. The support band is, at best, reasonable. You've no inclination to dance, but find yourself with neither pint nor cigarette nor shoulder bag to hold. What on earth do you do with your hands?

Schwebebahn Wuppertal

The Wuppertal Schwebebahn. In Wuppertal, birthplace of Aspirin and Heroin, they've been enjoying monorail travel since 1901. The line runs for 8 miles, most of it above the river Wupper, and has seen one collapse, one crash and one baby elephant jump.

Scientology pwns the BBC

This man is an on-duty BBC reporter, doing his best to make a Scientologist admit to brainwashing. The video was ended up on YouTube after being sent around by the Scientologists, so the BBC try to retaliate. Here's the reporter's explanation.

UW IMAP mailbox compacting

UW IMAP stores inboxes in /var/spool/mail/[username]. When I delete mail from my inbox (using Apple Mail), a copy of the message is left behind in that file, and it gets huge, even though it appears to have actually been removed from my inbox. Is there any way to prevent this happening, or at least to compact it?

Opening windows sideways

My flat recently had new windows installed that have hinges on the side and at the bottom, allowing them to open inwards either way. I can't figure out how to get them to open sideways. Anyone have any suggestions?

Uncooperative domain name reseller

If a domain name reseller (eg Lycos UK) is doing a really crappy job at the basics (letting you renew your own domains, letting you unlock your domain to transfer to another company, being contactable at all) is there anyone higher up to complain to to get something done? We're talking about a .com address here.

Thrupp: Get music from iTunes to MP3 players Thrupp is a program for Macs that automates the process of copying music from iTunes to non-iPod MP3 players and phones. You just drag songs, albums and playlists over from iTunes and Thrupp does the rest - it even keeps playlists up to date if you edit them. And music in AAC or Apple Lossless format is converted to MP3 while it's being copied.

Like a "cad", only not.

What word would you use to describe this person? Young, British, male, upper middle class; no regular job, career or profession; probably has some talent(s) or other and gets by doing odd bits of work for friends, friends of friends, or friends of daddy. A bit of a slacker really, but not someone who lives off their parents or spends their time partying. Any ideas? The quainter the better.
