Bacon!
I have you all beat.
When I was a student, my summer job for 3 years in a row was working in a bacon factory.
That's right.
A bacon factory.

No Japanese were hurt by the testing of this new drug.
(Just found it funny that the article specified it was tested on Americans)

Secret world of US jails
I get the feeling that this torture policy isnt really aimed at obtaining information...
They have to know by now that torture will yield false information, so why do they keep on doing it?
I think it's for intimidation purposes... as if the message is if you oppose us, and we capture you, you will suffer.

So? The etymology of the name Lucifer and the word luminary both have something to do with light.

Confuse-a-cat Ltd.
I found the perfect pet combination was a large female dog and a small cat.
I've had this roommate once who had this combo... the dog would carry the cat by the neck everywhere, put it down somewhere and lick it til the cat was just a mess of dog drool and sticky hair. The cat of course loved all this attention and purred like a harley davidson.
The dog was confused by the cat when the latter tried to make itself a comfy spot on top of the dog,... [more]

a corpulent reaper
I havent checked any statistics, but I'm pretty sure that the effects of any group of people dying early is going to be offset by other highly reproductive groups from overpopulated areas.

Schlumberger estimates the cost of all the equipment needed to perform the tests is around $250,000, but each test would cost only $350 to $550.

Haiti
A friend of mine got back from Port-au-Prince, visiting his family, just a few weeks ago.
He told me that the rebels were financed by the US to overthrow Aristide, because the US had previously asked him permission to set up a military base in Haiti and Aristide said that a condition for that was to allow Haitians to visit the USA without restrictions.
I dont remember reading about this in the media... or hearing about it anywhere else, so this... [more]

An American in Mongolia
At the time of the Iraq crisis the Mongolians staged no anti-war demonstrations. Indeed, they deployed a contingent of 175 soldiers to Baghdad last year, to help with policing efforts—a move that marked the first entry of Mongol troops into Mesopotamia since 1258, when Hulagu Khan, a grandson of Genghis Khan's, arrived and exterminated most of the population of Baghdad.
I bet that the Baghdad resident rolled out the red welcoming carpet...

after a quick look at several US-based breeders, it seems like the price of a miniature horse (pet or breeding) can be anywhere between 600$US and 4000$US.
can you teach a minihorse to fetch? rollover? play dead?
I shall call him... Mini-Neigh!

Trains vs. Airplanes
In Canada, we have VIA Rail. The onboard food is crappy, but the seats are way more comfortable than any bus I've been on.
And with all the hassles the airlines have us go through especially since 9-11, I'll only take the plane if the alternative is a train trip of more than one day.
