MeFi post: Pregnant Man Gives Birth. That's a fact.
I think the fundamental discomfort that people have with transgendered individuals is the fact that they don't fit into the neat little boxes that we use to define gender. Say all you want about steretyping, but this is how we as humans are wired to understand things. Our brain automatically categorizes information into categories called schemata - it's how we make sense of the world. And part of what we learn from a very young age is that there are only two categories of gender - boy and... [more]

MeFi post: They see her rollin, they lovin'
It's part of the deal, people. We keep dogs as pets, and it's a package deal for the species, so it's nice someone stepped up for this pup. Go them!

My sentiments exactly. Humans purposely domesticated dogs, and we have a responsibility to take care of them.

I thought this was a great article. Very heartwarming. I particularly liked the video of Hope as a baby, because it showed how great animals' spirits are. They don't... [more]

MeFi post: He Did Wonders When The Times Got Bad
That was hilarious. Yeah it's probably not great for him to eat meat all the time, but my friend's rabbit eats beef jerky sometimes and doesn't seem to have a problem with it. Seems like a well-trained horse who enjoys human company. He wouldn't be doing those things if he didn't like it. I'm curious how much of that is "real" and how much was just gimmicks - I would be very surprised if the horse actually slept in that bed.

Watching that again, the horse looks totally calm even riding down the highway. Amazing.

MeFi post: The Japanese scientist in the white labcoat says so
Someone taught me that shoelace trick a long time ago, and it's a pretty cool party trick (when you're 10) but they don't stay tied as long.

MeFi post: Come on, monsters! You don't have to cry! We can be happy! Yeah!
Why is it that I can clearly remember the "You Really Got A Hold On Me" (involving a lot of tugging and scared looks) 20 years later?

MeFi post: Brilliant.
"You know, rather getting one of these fancy newfangled MIT alarm clocks you could just put the one you already have across the room so you have to get out of bed and turn it off."

I do that. And I still turn the effing thing off.

MeFi post: Yuh! Books burn wicked good, brother!
why do schools always choose "Catcher" - it's really just not that interesting. "9 stories" is a much better example of Salinger's work.

MeFi post: This post is not very PC
Ditto MC, I'm on a T41 right now and I couldn't be happier. Hated my Dell, and I pity my classmates who constantly curse at theirs. Sad to see the end of an era.

For those of use who don't live in the UK, is there a website where we can stream the documentary? I'm quite curious...
