Friday Nights Without Jonathan Ross

I'm sorry that I've met you, but it's really not my fault.

To appease (or perhaps aggravate) your curiosity, here's a tiny little teaser compiled from the Mefi Music Collaboration tracks.

The Mefite Has Been Drinking

Some of you might remember my interpretation of mr. marx's interpretation of "The Piano Has Been Drinking" on MeTa a few years ago. A little-known fact however is that early in Waits's career, when he was still a struggling artist, he would opt to perform this version as a so-called "crowd pleaser". This is a rare bootleg recording of one of those occasions.

Foundations

Kate Nash cover, for all of them fine, fine ladies out there.

Fear of Falling

By chance I just came across this recording I made over a year ago. The song is by the chronically underrated I Am Kloot.

I Am John

Say gnfti, how's your falsetto doing? Why, I'm glad you ask! Here's a Loney, dear cover.

Observational Comedy

Album's finished, yo. What better reason to give you another outtake? B-movies is available from CD Baby (North America) and the B-movies web shop (elsewhere); or get cheap, legal MP3s from Amie Street.

You Promised There Would Be Girls [demo]

I wrote and recorded this today - it's basically a stream-of-consciousness account of one of the stranger and more entertaining parties I've attended.

Requiem for the Living

The new album is more or less finished, so I thought I'd offer you guys another sneak peek. A shoot-from-the-hip rock song - Let's drink to the things that died too soon.

Requiem for blink

On a sad day last spring, our benevolent dictator banned the blink tag from Metafilter. After a night of heavy drinking I woke up in a canoe in the Andes and composed this eulogy.

Monkey

At empyrean's request. I needed a break from mixing my own songs anyway, so I threw together this quick & dirty cover of the Counting Crows song in 15 minutes, and uploaded it warts and all - one take off the top of my head, complete with missed notes, words, and chords. Enjoy.

Not For the Season

A cover of a song by Wilco or Loose Fur, depending on how you look at it. [more inside]

The Redemption of Transvaal

A portrait of my old neighbourhood in The Hague, where I lived until it was up for demolition and subsequent gentrification.

Sing of Grace

Given that there are many Jeff Buckley tributes already out there, and that I wasn't really that familiar with his work until not too long ago, I thought I would write an homage to someone I didn't really know - and plagiarize some of the existing tributes in the very first line.

Writers Block Party

On the trappings of being a songwriter, and the fleeting nature of things. Ripping pages from the poets you admire.

A Sincere Ballroom Song
