Ask post: Got faith?
This sounds exactly like my ex boyfriend. Turned out he had Asberger's Syndrome. I'm not saying that's an answer for you, but it could be worth checking out. He was unable for months to move to a new apartment or change jobs because he couldn't be 100% sure that the new situation was any better, and he couldn't get past the inconvenience of moving/job searching possibly being worth nothing.

Ask post: How can I make myself feel energized?
This is me! Right now I'm completely swamped from just finishing grad apps, my roomate rarely does dishes or takes out trash, my boyfriend's broken car means he always rides with me so I get no alone time, midterms are here, and excersizing only makes my day longer and me more tired.

Also, I don't know why, but I can never get to sleep, and sleep is always restless.

I've been exhausted feeling the whole semester and it really feels like I'll... [more]

Ask post: Greek-English Old Testament
Old testament can be fudged on, I'll take the whole bible, but it can definitely not be KJV, most any other version will do.

I don't know about a Christian online bookseller (can someone recommend one?) I kindof assumed if Amazon didn't have it, it didn't exist, but I've been to several Christian bookstores, and most of the Old Testaments they have are the Torah which is not quite what I want as it's a gift for a Catholic, and I've never found an Old Testament English-Greek Bible.

Ask post: "I envy people who drink -- at least they know what to blame everything on."
If you're not completely against any alcohol, grab a drink and drink it slow, if people ask, you can always say you're on your second one, I've done this by accident on nights when I just wasn't feeling drinky.

Alternately, if you ask for a 'virgin' anything, you'll get it in the usual glass, not plastic, you'll probably get a chance to order without being looked in on, and if you're nervous about the bartender, offer to refill someone else's drink while you go get... [more]

Ask post: Have you ever initiated sex while you were asleep?
It's happened to me, with one of my exs, the first time I was kind of alarmed, but on subsequent occaisions I just went with it, on average, he was slightly better asleep than awake.
posted to Ask Metafilter by nile_red at 10:06 PM on December 2, 2005
Oh! actually, I've done this! A guy woke me up while I was initiating sex and I was so confused that I wasn't aroused anymore. He was pissed and I was kinda confused and suggested next time he just not wake me up...I completely forgot about it til now.

Ask post: Why are some poops dirtier than others?
I've always heard it was fiber, as the others have said, ignoring, of course, the random "oh crap(no pun intended) I'm sick" poos.

Ask post: Sex whilst on her period...
You can try Insteads and while the product swears guys won't feel them, that's not true in all positions, but it does keep the mess away.

Alternately, there's sex in the shower, or just dealing with it. It can be awkward and embarassing (if you guys aren't at a place where you can get past it), but it does wash off.

Of course, there are precautions (like having a towel handy), and I'd say sexual adventures like going down on her are out of... [more]

Y'know, not to attack the poster, but I don't see how some guys can be ok with anal sex and not ok with menstrual sex, they're both messy and to me, anal's always smelled much worse. I'd just restate the sex-in-the-shower option. It'll smell like the shower, and there's an easy clean off right there. That way you can avoid the major turn offs for you...just don't slip.

Ask post: Why do I put my hands behind my head so much?
I do this all the time. I'll have my hands and arms akimbo all piled on top of my head. I've had to learn to stop, even though it's really comfy for some reason, because it feels like I'm trying to draw attention to my breasts, and I'm not.

but I didn't always do this, dunno where I picked it up.

Ask post: Help me cite a reference.
Yeah, I can get a few of the originals, but quite a few of them cost 30$ a pop, and I'm just not that rich a student.

The instructor doesn't care what referencing style I choose, so long as I choose one and am consistent with it.

So I'd reference it as:

Curray and Moore, 1974; Curray et al., 1982; Emmel and Curray, 1985
non vidi - cited in Geology Vol. 17, Issue 12, Dec. 1989: 1132-1135 (then article title, author, etd)

Ask post: How do I clean my tub that has been stained with latex paint?
I have a roomate who will often dye her hair a bright red, and it invariably leaves pink spots all over the bathtub, the counters, the floor, the anything. Everytime, though, some diluted bleach + hot water gets it out just fine.

However! My mom once used some abrasive on a tub we had at the house, and it ate away a layer of porcelain, leaving the tub randomly sharp, like, if you rubbed your elbow against it you'd come away cut, but if you sat on it you were ok. So... [more]

Ask post: Do British people use sheets?
I'm also an American who uses mattress+fitted sheet+duvet, mostly cause I used to put on the flat sheet, but I always kick it off in the night, and whenever I washed sheets I washed everything anyways (cause I can't stand the idea of the wash fading some items and then having others not match because of it). I never really thought the duvet cover was a bigger pain than you'd expect from a giant pillowcase...so it's like I'm sleeping in a giant feather pillow, warm and toasty, perfect with an... [more]

Ask post: Is she the one?
From personal experience:

I've had a close friend for upwards of seven years, we met in highschool, and though we didn't know it at the time, each harbored a bit more than a crush for the other. We each were dating, and while we both dated several people, we never managed to be single at the same time, so we never really talked about our feelings, other than vague talk about how we were exceptionally close, and how important we were to each other, in short, everything... In Hattiesburg, MS there was power lost for a good while, one week after Katrina parts of Jackson, MS still under a boil water notice. In Starkville, MS there was minor flooding everywhere for a night, loss of power in parts and classes at the university cancelled for a day.

It's all stuff you could deal with, but still not pleasant. Nowhere near as bad as the coast. I accidentally ended up on the coast when I was driving down to pick up a friend and the roads going... [more]

Ask post: What's a good cheap beach vacation spot, accesible from NYC?
I was in Fort Morgan, Florida this summer, it's about half an hour from Gulf Shores, and there isn't much hurricane damage there, you can rent small houses in the offseason for relatively cheap, but the condos up around Gulf Shores still looked pretty beat up.

I don't remember the name of the group we rented from but if you email me I'll look it up (email's in the profile).

Ask post: TURN THAT CRAP DOWN!
I've been told (but not researched so I may be wrong) that the 24 hour loud music wedding was just how it was done. It's not noise, it's a celebration of a very important day. How arrogant is it for anyone to ask them to turn down the music of a wedding, simply because in your culture weddings are something that are quiet and can happen in the space of time between lunch and dinner? I cant imagine my response to someone who showed up at a wedding and asked the officiant if the bride could... [more]

I've also had RIT dye be sketchy on the hemming threads, but usually I liked the new 'accent stitching.' So far I've never had much of a fading problem with RIT if you use the vinegar trick they suggest on the package. Also, RIT comes in lots of colors, cheap, easy to find at the grocery.

Ask post: What's your cool family tradition?
Family camping trips, board game night, cooking with my dad every sunday dinner, things like that I think everyone has, but the most important family tradition we ever had was reading to the kids (either mom, dad or older sibling would read) and eating dinner with all T.V's off, books put away, conversation required. It's daily together time that really makes a family.

Ask post: More on Migraines
My advice is that whatever your doctor gives you, look it up first. My doctor put me on some weird 'preventative' medication that had me so out of sorts I wasn't the same person, it messed up my blood pressure to boot, and he'd described it as having minimal side effects. A PDR is your friend.
