Perhaps it is time to have our low achievers take one for the team, and switch to the #1 smartest website team. We could take them so down.

MeTa post: A Dude's Perspective
it sure sounds like Townes Van Zandt singing it

Yes, it is Townes Van Zandt, from his Road Songs CD.

Which also has a killer version of Racing In The Streets on it:

Some guys they just give up living
And start dying little by little piece by piece
Some guys come home from work and wash up
Then go racin in the street...

This also lacks useful context.

249 out of 5,000 viewers?

249 people who just don't like the idea?

MeTa post: Seeking clarity on mod communication
From this week's New Yorker article on "misspeaking" ...

Along with its various derivatives, “misspeak” has become one of the signature verbal workhorses of this interminable political season .... It carries the suggestion that, while the politician’s perfectly functioning brain has dispatched the correct signals, the mouth has somehow received and transmitted them in altered form. “Misspeak” is a powerful word, a magical word. It is a word that is... [more]

Yes but apparently Answerbag gives out points and medals!

Answerbag recognizes the most prolific members by awarding them points and medals, along with ranks. When a user receives points, the user levels up, but it takes more points for the user to level up the next time. The levels are as follows in order.
Level 1-2 Beginner
Level 3-4 Novice
Level 5-9 Contributor
Level 10-14 Wiz
Level 15-19

I seem to recall, from the blur of my catholic childhood, that the cathedral in Boston had the hats of the cardinals (and bishops?) hanging from the ceiling. Each piece slowly falling apart high in the dusty cathedral light. Not a Pope's hat, exactly, but the image is burned into my visual memory.
