Hi, I'm Wendell, and I'm a Domain Name addict. And I just registered DRINKSYOURMILKSHAKE.COM with the intent of setting up something like
isyournewbicycle.com but I'm open to other ideas. Feel free to aim your long straw at me...

Webcomics: If just about anybody can make one, what tools/resources would I need? I have a good mental picture of character design, but my hand drawing is hardly worth scanning, so I might as well do it all on my compy (Yes, XQ, you can try to talk me out of it). At least at first, it'll mostly be standing-around-swapping-punchlines, so nothing too complicated. So what's out there to make me a webtoonist?

HollywoodFilter: Who are the Most Overrated Stars in ShowBiz?
Full Disclosure: This is research for a paid writing assignment on the subject. (And I'll be sad but accepting if Matt chooses to delete) I usually rely on my own opinion and depth of knowledge, and have been Google-fishing this like crazy, but this topic is so general that I want as many outside suggestions as I can collect.
NOTE: I am not looking for the latest teen queen lip-syncher or reality show discovery, I'm looking for candidates with a longer, more successful showbiz career than their obvious level of talent deserves. Actors, singers, comics, 'personalities', maybe even writer/creators. William Shatner (IMHO) is my poster boy. (And no dead people, please)

My favorite kind of bread is Sourdough (it's Californian, dude!), and I know I should be eating something more wholegrainhighfiberlowcarbwhatever. But I'm curious... if the cultures in yogurt are healthy for you, does the culture that makes sourdough sour have any nutrition benefits over plain white bread? And does Sourdough really take 2-3X as long to get stale and moldy than other bread, or that just me?
Or can anybody reccommend a best-tasing Whole Wheat Sourdough?

Since I de-sasser-wormed my Compaq machine and updated WinXPHome, I haven't been able to get Mozilla to work; re-installed it twice, re-downloaded 1.6 once, I get nothin' but little warning boxes saying "script error", that, after I un-installed Mo, now pop up when I start IE. Wendell sad. Wendell dumb.

I know I should be validating all the stuff I put on the Intarweb on various different browsers, so I alternately run Mozilla 1.4, IE 6 and Opera 7 to review my work. I tried to download IE 5.X from a 'legacy browsers' site, but it wouldn't install with 6 already installed. How do I make that work? (And, as long as I'm letting my web dumbness hang out, where are the bestest places to validate your HTML and CSS, and what else should I be testing/validating that I haven't mentioned?)

CMSFilter: After hearing about Dean Allen's
TextPattern on and off for the longest time without being able to actually try it, it's now
available in what he calls a "gamma" version that he's been updating and bugfixing for the last week. Is it worth the time to check out or not, or not yet? And what's so special (or not or not yet) about this particular pile of code?

I paid 25 cents at a Public Library Used Books-and-Stuff Sale for a CD-ROM of "Flash 2" with a registration card for "Flash 5 Upgrade". Am I in danger of doing something illegal, futile, or just flashy?

A relatively shy MeFi member (and you know I'd admit it if it was
me) is looking for advice on finding a good psychatrist in the Los Angeles area. More interested in talking therapy than medication, though not ruling anything out.
Private responses can be sent to SHRINKatWENDELLWITdotCOM.

This is the absolutely LAST time I will ever use the word "domain" in an AskMeFi post, I promise...
Can I trust 1and1 to register my domains?
I got the three-year-free package and they don't have my debit card number
yet. I'm registered by godaddy with $8.95 renewals ($7.95 promotion only for new .coms), and 1and1 gets in my face with an offer for 49-cents-a-month ($5.88/year). I don't feel good about doing monthly payments for this, but saving 3 dollars on a dozen domains will save me enough to buy more domains! And, even though I've specified "shut me down before you charge me for overages" to 1and1, I'm still worried about getting hit by surprise charges if they have my debit card number. Whadyathink?

Domain-amania! (part one)
A little less than a year ago, when I thought I was on the road to recovery, I had a shopping spree on GoDaddy, getting more than a dozen domain names I intended to turn into a network of cool sites. Nearly all of them have lain fallow since then, and now it's time to renew or relinquish and "thin out the herd". Over the next several days, I'll be Asking MeFi what names are worth keeping and what site ideas are worth pursuing. [more-on inside]

Those Things That Look Like Luggage Straps That Hang Around Your Neck and You Attach Your Keys to... Is there a common name for those things? (Hard to Google without one...) And where can you buy them? And in what department? (I've looked in men's accessories, women's accessories, sporting goods...) I've never used one myself, but I need to buy one for somebody (No, it's NOT a Valentine's gift; I'm not THAT lame...)

In my effort to organize a Los Angeles MeFi Meetup, I'm confronted with the fact that this is such a spread-out metro area that finding a generally-convenient location requires some high-tech assistance. Does there exist a web service or other program to which you can enter a list of zip codes (like on the 'MeFi Users Near You' list) and find out what area is the most 'freeway close' to the largest number of people? Or do you have any other suggestions how to 'triangulate' a couple dozen people?
