The Prime Of Miss Jean Bonaldi
Not sure at all if it's a common and changeable expression (you'll have had your {fill in the blank}). But I immediately thought of the radio show You'll Have Had Your Tea, with Hamish and Dougal.

Swapset Level Plane, you guys are awesome! Four CDs have already arrived and I can't wait to listen to them.
Unfortunately, due to some unexpected moving etc this past month, mine aren't quite finished yet. But they should be going out sometime next week.

The meetups I've been to, it's worked well to go around and ask people if they are there with Matt Haughey. None of the strangers seem to think it's very weird, I don't have to disclose that I'm there for an internet party of imaginary friends, and the people I'm looking for immediately know I've found them.

metaldark, I'm also a lurker and no one here knows me either, so if you come we can feel awkward together! Or, you know, know that the other quiet person down the table is also feeling awkward. Or something. I'm sure we'll be able to work it out.

Cortex, I think what you may be looking at is the distinction between:
1) a phrasal verb - a verb with an adverbial particle (such as off, up, or around; it looks a lot like a preposition, but it has a special name in this case) that together functions with a different meaning than the two (or more) separate parts (see "I fuck off at work", "I fuck up my marriage", "I fuck around all day by reading Metafilter", etc.)... Agreed. And personally I'd love seeing some ESL jobs listed, a lot of people here have solid contacts in that area of education.
It had never occurred to me to post jobs I wasn't actually hiring for, but just had the inside track on. I do know of a current ESL job and just posted it *fingers crossed*. Anyone want to move to Mexico?

hi, mr z!
how has your day been?
oh, you know, rebelling against authority, mocking the kids at the cool table, band practice, the normal. i think i'll go home tonight and argue with my parents.
also, this is apparently the year when the u.k. left out september 3rd to the 13th, skipping them altogether, in order to adjust to the new fangled gregorian calendar they had just adopted.

MLIS! You were lost, but now found. Lovely. It's good to see you again.
Here's a small present from the recent (and first ever!) meetup round these parts.
Also, cortex, if you're still following this thread, judgment was just invoked and you are in the process of being voted off the island. But as there's currently no rule to prevent it, you're of course able to rejoin at any time. But it looks like the game will be moving on without you.... [more]

Well, I suppose that depends on how you define "met". If by met you mean, attended the same very large meetup and spoke for 30 seconds, then yes please! But if you mean someone that you'd actually remember if you met them again, then yeah, probably not.
Does it help if I say I'm interested in going to library school some day?

Meetup in Chilangolandia, órale pues.
I'm up here in Queretaro, but I'd love to do a meetup. I could only do it over the weekend, though, so maybe that wouldn't work. But if I can't do this one, definitely keep me in mind for the next!
If y'all are doing it April 1 - 5, I vote for the 4th or 5th (viernes y sabado).
But then again, I'll probably be somewhat broke after semana santa, so if it's better for y'all to do it another night, it would probably be better for me to not... [more]

Got the next day off work, so I'm definitely in. Very excited. Thanks so much to donpedro for organising this! I'm excited to meet everyone.
I was looking at hostels, and it looks like there's one a few blocks away (near Obregon and Insurgentes), but it got kind of bad reviews on hostelworld. Anyone know anything about Hostel Home there in Roma?

This joke really caught me off guard. Took me awhile to figure out what was going on. I definitely thought my laptop screen was fucked and I also kept trying to move out of the sun to get the glare off. I was really squinting by the time I finally wandered into that other MeTa thread and figured out what was going on. It was hilarious. I was laughing so hard and there was no way to explain it to my housemates. I've had one tab of each subsite's front page open all day just so I could watch... [more]

Live Preview Slowness
Melismata, as far as I see it, the OP isn't required to do anything. But when the OP comes in with a demanding, difficult to understand post, they are very likely to get snarking and mocking in return. Whereas if the OP has a request to make of the host of this party, and does it with a little friendliness and thankfulness, that will probably get them a lot further towards what they want. More flies with honey etc.

White people on Metafilter
I really disagree that "white people" equals "upper-middle-class-urban-dwelling" is true. If you mean "umcud" then say it. This blog does not say that. This blog says "white people". I can understand how some people have decided that is how they will read it, but it's still absolutely not what is said.
If I collect behavior often associated with poor inner city culture, can I say "All black people" are like this?... [more]
