Sun day, sun day, sun day!
Know what? That sounds great. Plus it's one of my last weekends here before I'm LA-bound so it'd be nice to see everyone! :)

I probably should leave her home amidst the boxes...
She is a bit of a scampercarrot. But of the Shorthaired Viennese (aka Wiener) variety. :)

What'd I miss?
Personally when I take a Mefi break I've found it's best to just ignore the time I was away. To pretend as though metafilter didn't really exist in my absence so I didn't miss a damn thing.
That said, I tend to use delusion and denial as coping mechanisms on a fairly regular basis. Keeps me zen.

Sure. You say you love us. But that's what you told BoingBoing too. And we aren't falling for it like they did. Mama didn't raise no fools.

Oh, crap on a stick: it's Warwick Davis.
As I've advised before... just be sure to look down if you're on a dancefloor and you feel a tug on the bottom of your shirt. Dude from Willow might be wanting to boogie. Learn from my youthful social errors, my friends.

Perhaps I should disable my account. I'm clearly bringing down the average, as you guys are making my pretty little head hurt.
So hey, what's our world website ranking for having dingbat members whose pretty little heads smoke when simply discussing IQ tests? Oh nevermind, I'm sure Perez Hilton has that category all sewn up.
P.S. -- FIRST!!!!!! lol

If I was going to close it, I think the appeal would be a fresh start. It might be kind of refreshing and freeing to be writing from a username where people don't know so damn much crap about me because of my fast typing fingers & stupid big mouth.

And personally, I think she's newsworthy even if he life is a trainwreck. Difference being she has 99% more creative talent than most tabloid subjects. If this article was about Heidi Montag or something it would be far more offensive.
Unfortunately, Amy Winehouse is like our Janis Joplin or something.

Our own Adam Savage has emphysema!??!!? Yep, that would be a very different celebrity fpp & Meta.
Amy's self-destructive story makes her a current icon a la Billie Holliday or Lauryn Hill or Janis Joplin... no matter what kind of music you choose to listen to, whether it makes you feel superior to declare her as garbage you don't care about, or whether she's a member of Metafilter. Having won FIVE GRAMMYS this year, she IS a part of newsworthy pop culture, and... [more]

As opposed to the thousands of other people who are also struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, but no one cares about them because they aren't rich, famous, or talented.
I'm not sure how caring about one person's plight automatically implies that you don't care about others in the same plight. I think tragedy is tragedy. So don't put words into my mouth.

Rather, she has "early signs of what could lead to emphysema," rep Tracey Miller said Monday.
That sounds like something someone in my family would say. I always had thought my mom had a heart attack when I was in 9th grade and that she had a horrible heart condition. So then when her health really started fading after her first few strokes, I was talking to her doctor and he kept acting surprised when I continued to ask about her heart... [more]

The New York to Los Angeles Metafilter Goodwill Caravan 2008
Hey you.
Actually, don't believe a word of that. Los Angeles has a bad reputation for being a renegade town where you are encouraged to do anything you want to, some kind of silly, immature utopia for those who love to live. But I've got to give it up, that's probably why I'm fighting my way back and heading southbound after leaving town. Not that I can afford to move back right now, but Hell... it's only money.
Hope the meetup is a wild one.... [more]

Well, my Pee Wee fpp definitely took the most effort. I was pretty proud of that one.
Other than the Fogerty story, there is one comment that leaps to mind because just by thinking about it I had myself laughing for days. And of all places, this favorite joke of mine can be found in a depressing thread about 250 animal carcasses that were found dumped off of Spooky Hollow Road in Muncie, Indiana. Would you like to see it? Here you go.... [more]

Yeah, actually I'd say the life of your local drycleaner may well be in many ways far more cutting edge.

I hope the pictures feature my dog more than me, I'm SO tired today I just looked in the mirror and terrified myself. Zoe however, is always photogenic, and she's currently totally unconscious after a happy afternoon of sand-running, people-meeting and Doberman-chasing. She says thanks for a fun afternoon. :)

BTW, to give you an idea of how much my dad loved his dogs, his final wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes mixed together with his last blue heeler, whose cremated remains are kept in a picture box on display on top of his tv. The guy was seriously into his pets.
