I just love it when Miko decides not to take any shit. Makes my day, every single time.

Blame it on Bklyn.
The New York Times review of Indecision referenced in the article is really funny and (I would say) a more even-handed critique. Sorry about the hyphen and the parenthetical...

Demonstrate! Manifest! Unite! Create! Divide! Destroy! Revolt!
It's disappointing that the wikipedia entry for futurist meals doesn't include the text of the Manifesto of Futurist Cooking, because the summary does it no real justice. Where Wikipedia says, "No more pasta for it causes lassitude, pessimism and lack of passion," the Manifesto says something like, "We must make our Italian bodies light for the aluminum trains of the future!"
ubuweb has some manifestos that are similarly... [more]

For real men
I realize this isn't AskMe, but there was a great obituary on Red Adair in the Economist. Unfortunately it's been archived and you can't read it without a subscription. Here's a link anyway.

Montreal Expo 1967, through the eyes of Lillian Seymour
There are two pages missing from the beginning of the scrapbook that probably would have indicated that they were New York World's Fair pictures. I guess now I have to re-tag and re-group them!
There's an extensive website for the 1964 New York World's Fair, (thanks, mechaZardoz) including ad copy for the Chrysler Exhibit pictured here.
I was surprised to learn that my grandparents on both sides of the family visited the the Montreal... [more]

Edmund Wilson and American culture
Thanks, matteo. I got on something of an Edmund Wilson kick after reading Frederick Exley's Pages from a Cold Island. I'm looking forward to digging through the links.

As seen on the sidewalk, bien sûr
I've seen this guy riding the straight ahead #2 around the MIT campus. It's a neat looking contraption, but I don't really think that "the audience for this bike would be teenagers to young adults."

But did he scream out his own name??
This is far and away grant stoddard's best piece. It's a shame that it's the last last installment of "i did it for science", but what a high note to go out on. The premise by itself is hilarious, and his conclusions about the whole affair are (speaking as a straight male) pretty damn interesting.

As per Smart Dalek's link, we here at the Dow Chemical Company would prefer it if you would stop using the color Blue** to refer to Metafilter.
Thank you.

Frankenpop
This reminds me a lot of Komar and Melamid. They released an album in 1996 containing "The Most Wanted Song" and "The Most Unwanted Song." The latter, if I remember correctly is 12:55 and contains a chorus of children singing "Hey everybody! It's Yom Kippur!"

Sutures of Staples?
i'm envisioning some kind of grand theft appendix where you get to play a seedy back alley mafia doctor whose good name has been sullied by bogus malpractice lawsuits. you could either burn fingerprints off two-bit hoods, or try and get your medical degree back and go straight. total immersion! in blood!! up to the forearms, anyway.

Poetic Justice?
When I had my wisdom teeth pulled they made me watch a video that detailed all the things that could possibly go wrong, the worst of which (in my mind) was possible permanent paralysis of the jaw.
