Call it "Fire Joe Buck" and maybe you'll get more hits. It's 2008, guys. Another over-rated blog. What a shock.
Looks like someone didn't bother clicking through.
I read a lot of baseball blogs. FJM is one of my favorites. There is no site that so consistently (and successfully) takes poor sports journalism to task.
And good god, there is a lot of poor sports journalism.

Ready or Not
...the organisers seem to want to try to run the World Cup as efficiently as the Germans did.
There could be worse fates. An efficiently-run World Cup is a very, very good thing for the sport, whether it's hosted in Germany, South Africa, Greenland, or Sepp Blatter's backyard. Giving the Cup an African flavor doesn't require disorganization, does it?

Look, ma, no dogma!
"We really pride ourselves on inclusion," said Taylor. "We are firmly committed to promoting a summer camping experience to all children despite their backgrounds."
Hilarious.

A World Cup without goals?
"There hasn't been a World Cup Final since 1986 where both teams scored."
That's a sample size of four. Not much to go on.

Oh Good, It Looks Like Brazil Is Going To Win The World Cup Again!
jamesonandwater: Not too much of a stretch to expect that. Every World Cup, with host continent listed first, and continent of the winner listed second:
30: South America, South America
34: Europe, Europe
38: Europe, Europe
50: South America, South America
54: Europe, Europe
58: Europe, South America
62: South America, South America
66: Europe, Europe
70: North America, South... [more]

Re: "World Cup, USA Style"...
- I would never expect to hear my horrifying Chicago Cubs to be compared to the most successful footballing nation in the world, in any sense.
- France, recent World Cup and European Champions, as well as perennial favorite: the 2004 Red Sox?
- His description of the Dutch team matches with the Dutch from '98, but now? This is the most cohesive Dutch team in years, mostly... [more]

The 1966 World Cup - the other story.
Great post. I'd heard about Pickles and the trophy theft, but never knew much more than that.
I wonder why everyone assumes the thieves would have melted the trophy. They go through all the trouble of stealing one of the world's most recognizable and important prizes, only to turn it into...bars? The statuette itself was undoubtedly worth more than the gold it was made from.

Just to revise a little bit:

As in, Skynyrd weren't fans of Wallace. At least that's how I always interpreted it.
Wikipedia, of course, has a few more notes on this.

As long as NPR's Libby Lewis is still assigned to all Lewis Libby stories, I'll be happy.

X-rated basketball?
mathowie: It's the front inside lining of his shorts, which is white. Looks like the light catches the front inside differently from the back inside, making it look like there are two different colors there.
Pretty weird illusion.
