What's the value of

Remote X11 desktop on OS X
nomisxid is right. startx starts the xserver on that specific machine. It simply executes the binary "X". If you want to have xfce running, have a look at the .xinitrc in your $HOME or the system wide configuration. It will contain the correct script or binary to start the xfce DE.

It's a concert man. Do whatever you want. And especially don't care about what other people think of you (apply this rule to your life too). ;-)

Apache: Subdomain Management
What would happen, if you have these examples:
Someone requests simple.sub.domain.com and sub.domain.com.
This would lead to
/home/domain/sub/simple
and the second subdomain to
/home/domain/sub
where you could see the directory "simpl"e as a subdirectory of his sub.domain.com.
Is that what you want?

How can I get exercise with me Wii?
Konami released a Dance Dance Revolution title for the Wii. I haven't played the Wii Version, because it isn't released in Germany yet.
But I don't think there are any differences too older versions (besides you can use your hands now, feat. the wiimote).

Geek self-study
This book won a few prices (original is in german) here. I can recommend it personally, because I own a copy. I'm using Linux for 9 years now and I can still find interesting tips and hints in it.

fast early train
Alright, I think the Thalys has a direct route from paris to cologne. The ICE is the german equivalent, you can check it here: Deutsche Bahn (includes Thalys routes). But it seems they don't have any traffic in the early morning hours.
And you should know, if you are planing traveling in the next weeks. German loc. drivers are in a labour dispute and could go on strike any day. Thalys is not german though.
You could check news here (international CNN might... [more]

An addition the my comment about the franko-german tv channel arte.
According to this news article (in german), arte will offer streaming services for some of their shows as of 10/1/2007. The article also contains links for similar services by ARD and ZDF.

First MediaWiki, now Deki Wiki...
Safe time and effort and use a desktop wiki. I can recommend MoinMoin DE. The only thing it needs is a python installation.
You start MoinMoin DE, it runs a webserver on localhost with a running wiki. It stores all its information in the filesystem, you don't need any database.

You mention uTorrent. Do you run eMule or another client for the eDonkey network?

It's some kind of p2p-Application. It was just a wild guess, because IIRC the client and the way it downloads things stressed the harddisk. Friends of mine suffered harddisk failure because they used it frequently.

History: Executed commands don't go to the history file immediatly. The bash history is kept in the computers memory as long as the bash process remains. When you close one the bashs, it's written to disk.
I don't think you can share the history over multiple bash processes easily.

How can I determine a server's power supply type remotely?
I think acpi is the best chance. Are you sure you have all the different acpi modules available (speaking in linux terms)? Perhaps there are some special acpi modules for the hardware. I'm using ibm_acpi on my laptop for the thinkpad features.

I'm a great public speaker, but painfully shy in every other situation. What to do?
Shyness and Introversion are distinct things. They are somehow related though.
The first step, for me as an introvert, was to accept that it is unlikley to expect to be an extrovert in the future. Introversion is one of the Big Five personality traits (actually extraversion is, but it's a dimension) which are known to be stable over time.
I'm surprised, that you are a such a good public speaker. It reminds me of the Introversion/Extraversion Pattern. Perhaps you can... [more]

Why is smooth peanut butter cheaper than nutty?
I guess because nutty peanut butter actually contains peanuts whereas smooth peanut butter only contains flavors which are not made from real peanuts and therefore the smooth butter much cheaper.

How do I create a jpeg thumbnail of a pdf file?
You need Ghostscript. I use the GPL Version. I extracted the correct Ghostscript command for creating png thumbnails for a pdf out of a program called thumbpdf. It's used by pdflatex to create thumbnails inside a pdf document. I use it under Linux, but I think it can be used the same way on different OSes.
