gjc, the document you cite directly contradicts your argument -- it states that "[a]n attorney may be liable to a non-client in the absence of an attorney/client relationship for a gratuitous service that the attorney agreed to perform." This is consistent with the article ND¢ cited way back at the start of the thread, which analyzes the risks of providing legal advice to strangers online.

Stinking of gin...
I don't see what was so "ridiculously provocative" about the way the question was framed. It's sort of a goofy post, and it does sort of activate my joke-post sensors, but it is an actual question that seems to have an actual answer. The poster shouldn't be punished (in effect if not in intent) for the transgressions of all the Reverend Lovejoys who chose to judge the poster rather than answer the question.

I doubt (and hope) these aren't my "best," but I had a lot of fun creating these images in the infamous Pretty Flowers pile-on. (This was before Ceiling Cat jumped the shark; the thread was actually the first time I ever saw the Cat.)

Creepy Dutch TV Host + Paedophilia Thread.
To those people, your threshold for "paedophilia" (which by the way is not equal to raping or seducing a child), is way fucking low. How many of you would have reported to the police a man trying to develop pictures of himself kissing a newborn boy on the groin/belly button?
Gay man shows affection for kid. Mob screams paedophile.
Thou shalt not think any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is... [more]

Actually, I just caught up with the rest of the comments in the thread, and there are some good points providing better context that may reduce or eliminate the squick factor if known before viewing the video. I'm not going to watch it again, though.

Within seconds of reading the last few comments, I got a spam e-mail (made it through my filters, ugh) from Domino's advertising a "2x Tuesday Deal" -- buy one large pizza, get a second free. Creepy!

Seriously?
The term "black majority" was taken directly from the post itself. TBM said that the majority came to power and did a crappy job running the country. I don't know enough about the history to say whether that's factually correct one way or the other, but I don't see how the assertion is racist.

I didn't read it as "blacks can't take care of themselves," but rather "the majority that came to power in Zimbabwe can't take care of themselves." But I can see how others read it differently, so I'll let TBM defend him/herself.

Saying "the black majority" was incapable of running things is like saying, based on GWB's tenure, that Republicans are incapable of running things.
You might want to find a better analogy.

Option 2: Mods recognize that this dispute is going nowhere good. The thread is closed.

I've learned that you can be an obnoxious flaming asshole, and make false and slanderous accusations, and people will give you favorites when you apologize for it.
I blame Star Wars. Darth Vader committed unspeakable acts of humanicide and planetary destruction, but because he helped out his son once at the end, he gets to chill with Yoda and Obi-Wan in jedi heaven. The lesson this imparts will have grave consequences for our society.... [more]

To reduce the possibility of abuse, you could limit the number of recipients (say to five), and/or limit the feature to a user's contacts.

Temporary commenting lockout for bad behavior in AskMe?
Setting aside the merits of the specific suggestions baphomet is making, I would just like to note that this is a model MeTa post format-wise. It identifies a problem, proposes a solution, and gives a rationale in support of the solution. Too often MeTa posts (other than bugs, feature requests, and fun stuff) reduce down to "this annoys me," "this should be banned," "x user is out of line," etc., so it's refreshing to see a coherent etiquette/policy proposal like... Welcome to MetaTalk! You have been called out by another user. Please select from the following options:
(1) Accept the criticism with good humor and a dash of humility
(2) Flame out in spectacular fashion
*nasreddin presses button*
You have chosen option (1). Are you absolutely certain you want to do this?
*nasreddin presses button again*
We are very disappointed in you. In the future, please consider choosing option (2).
