MeTa post: Simple question: How did you discover MetaFilter?...
From Romenesko's Obscure Store & Reading Room.

Dunno, this could've been it. But I paid five bucks to join, so maybe not. Maybe I just staggered in off the street.

If anyone's reading this, I still have the same problem on another terminal. I'm in IE, at work. Could it be a cookie issue, I wonder?

a three-paragraph puff piece that's not allowed to be either positive nor negative, merely descriptive.

But if it's a puff piece, then by definition it's positive.

My contribution to the low participation was to remember the admonition that "wisecracks don't help people find answers"--and to remember it before I hit "post comment."

MeTa post: "Wifebeaters" in AskMe....
1. All my in-laws live in trailers and not one of them wears these A-shirts.

OK, so: Here's what I see happening. OP objects to the term "wifebeater" used to describe a kind of men's undershirt. I assume it is because she (?) feels the term trivializes the problem of domestic abuse. She makes a perhaps overly terse post on MeTa about it. Perhaps the questions that should move out are the one's with the easily-Googlable answers. tsk tsk

Seconded. I for one get really exasperated by questions about where to buy stuff, facrissake. I'd much rather read the chatty/personal problem questions than those.

I notice, I care, and I pass judgment. I appreciate the self-checks, even as I wonder if anyone ever uses the spell checker. But pedantry is what I get paid for.

Speaking of unutterably tedious, I'm a goddamn copy editor. I rigidly enforce arbitrary rules that no one cares about. I also spend a lot of time dithering about whether to become a librarian.
