Job interview, Tuesday at 2 PM near Aberdeen, MD. Driving down I-95 from the Bronx. When should I leave in order to (a) not get stuck in too terribly much traffic anywhere along the route and therefore (b) not freak out about being late?

IdiotFilter, Windows XP. I was trying to make it stop telling me, every single day, that my password was about to expire and would I like to change it.

For an eyebrow wax in a small, non-fancy neighborhood nails-and-waxing-only place ($10 tops), do I tip the waxer?

"tab-gen abortion"
"a demonstration set of lams, pale green matchsticks made of compressed seaweed."
These phrases occur in a novel I'm reading; the speaker is (presumably) a gynecologist or CNP who is counseling a patient about a second-trimester abortion. I Googled and searched various medical encylopedias and came up empty. What is "tab-gen"? And are lams some kind of abortifacient suppository? Thanks.

Can I record LPs onto CDs by hooking up my PC to my stereo? I have a stereo, I have a PC with CD drive. I don't have a CD burner. Being a big fat cheapskate, I'm wondering if there's a way to record my LPs onto CD without buying yet another stereo component.

German scholars, historians, copyeditors, and anyone else: Can someone explain to me why an author whose book I'm editing has cited Hitler's Mein Kampf as "Mien Kemp"? Google doesn't elicit much in English, and I'm unilingual, alas. As far as I know, American English is my author's native language. Is he just a lousy speller? (Looks like it could be Dutch, but that's just a guess.)

I know there're a lot of MeFi librarians, since I've searched on this topic, but my specific questions don't seem to have been addressed yet. First, do you think there are a decent amount of entry-level public library jobs out there? The gubmint says so, various librarian blogs say no. Also--this would be a career change for me, so by the time I get the MLS I'd be around 40. Is it laughable to think anyone would hire a 40-year-old entry-level librarian? I've been in publishing for a while and am burned out but good. As a callow youth I worked quite happily in bookstores, and now as a grown-up I think a library job would provide similar psychic gratification but with better benefits and pay. Someone set me straight. TIA.

Cat Filter. We just lost an elderly cat, leaving us with only one. Potato Chip is 4, spayed, playful, and large-and-in-charge. (Really, she's like 20 lbs.) She used to bully the older cat--eat her food, ambush her out of the litter box, etc.--and doesn't seem to notice that she's gone now. I like to have 2 cats around and intend to get another. My question is, how can I minimize the bullying and maximize the peace of our happy home? I'm thinking a kitten, since a kitten would naturally be submissive to an adult. Does that sound right? Should this kitten be male or female? (Neutering will be done before we bring new kitty home, if necessary.) Rambunctious or shy and retiring? It's really a crapshoot, I know, but all opinions are welcomed.
