So what have we learned? Rush is not good, except to many people who can appreciate them. Call centers are not good to work in for anyone and don't pay stripper money. Being cutesy and vague in anon AskMe posts doesn't help your cause. Sometimes AskMe threads make us sad. And any thread with this many people in it is going to become a tangent cluster fuck for the better.

Also, no one said slippery slope yet. Where have our MeTa standards gone?

I have some variation of my handle on my high school class ring, my Tiffany charm bracelet, my license plate. My friends and coworkers call me Gucky, including some clients.

There's a world full of Amandas. Why would I want anyone to call me that?

Also, the fake names at meetups? I've been going to sub parties since I was in junior high and I've never thought of it. And there's been plenty where I was the only girl on that board.

I honestly thought that's how my now-husband would ask. But because I said it first, I ruined the surprise element. So he did it the old fashioned way. (You know, when I was barefoot in the middle of cooking a turkey.)

The only time I posted an anonymous AskMe question, everyone ripped me a new one. It made me mad. I cried. I wanted to make them take it back.

And although some people were being dicks about it, they were right about the core of it. If everyone were kind and soft and "Awww, it's ok" I wouldn't have been able to deal with what I was asking about in a constructive way.

Question: is there any particular use for a blender as part of illegal drug use or manufacture?

I had a roommate in college that used my blender as the first stage in an elaborate set-up to turn cheap weed into good hash. Since he was blending it with alcohol (the chemical kind, not the drinking kind) it didn't do any permanent damage to my blender and cleaned up quite easily.

Actually, it's the part of newsfilter I really like. For every celebrity I would have heard about in the mainstream, there's the weird people who only I (and other MeFiers) seem to know about.

And those people I didn't know about before, it's a perfect time for a well put together retrospective/FPP that catches me up on that bit of trivia that will make me reign supreme at pub quiz/inspire a novel/whatever else we're supposed to do with all the cool stuff I learn here.

I've been involved in weekly online writer's groups before. My favorite flash fiction is always in response to assignments.

They all fall apart, however, when assignments fail to come regularly or there's no pressure to regularly contribute. Criticism and bickering at least gives people the attention that writers seem to crave.

If nothing else comes of it, at least I got to contemplate original sin for the first time since Catholic confirmation.

What he posted the first time was very clear and very appaling.

And I thought it was written in a way that indicated he was clearly feeling terrible about himself, feeling helpless and worthless and trapped. He was desperate for a new answer because he realized all the existing answers were shitty.

I guess we all read into vagueness differently.
