My friends' band gave me a one-line creative...

Wallowing in misery for music marketing My friends' band gave me a one-line creative brief: "The feel-bad album of the year". So I wrote bizarre little PSAs and Sesame-Street-inspired segments for them to act in, as well "misfortune cookie" headlines for their merch. Their retro-goth music coupled with a depressed puppet amuses me, at least.

Is my kid an ancient hebrew good luck charm?

A few years back, an older Israeli man told me that my daughter's name, Kameya, meant "good luck charm" in ancient Hebrew. Was he just pulling my leg?

Replacing my favorite thesaurus now that it's more "efficient"?

Recommendations for a good, verbose online thesaurus for wandering through words? thesaurus.com seems to have changed how they serve search results and my working style is screwed.

How to fuel a little city girl's love of farming?

How can I support my daughter's interest in the agrarian lifestyle with my urban, black-thumb sensibility in the Bay Area?

The Barrister Gallery in New Orleans is showing...

Mars Tokyo retrospective in New Orleans The Barrister Gallery in New Orleans is showing the art of my friend Mars Tokyo from April 9th - May 31st, including her miniature theaters which hit the front page a few years back (without my nudging). They'll also be showing her pastels and other series of works for a diverse show. I wish I could be there to see the show, but posting to Projects is the next best thing, right?

Study on the science of PowerPoint comprehension?

Can anyone point me to the study in which the main takeaway was, "Don't just read the text off of your powerpoint slides because it hurts audience comprehension"?

jr./midlevel freelance copywriter in SF

I need a copywriter to help me out, say, yesterday. I'll give someone a contract to help me not drown in all this interactive copy work. If it works out, they'll be a job to be had. Anyone know a bay area copywriter that's smart, organized and doesn't mind handling a few edit and organize things? Someone that's good at thinking, writing, playing well with others and knows where a comma goes? Bonus for interactive experience, but I'd rather have a creative mind than an optimal search strategy. Interactive ad agency -- websites, banners, everything else. Big clients, mostly in the restaurant, adult beverage, entertainment and consumer packaged goods space. Dog Patch office -- anything but glamorous, easier to find parking. Portfolio/samples and a resume, please to me, Amanda, the copy ACD: amanda.peterson@realbranding.com

MeFi's own mykescipark will be sharing way too...

Bulgarian Folk Orgy MeFi's own mykescipark will be sharing way too much of what he loves about Bulgarian Folk music on on Harvard University's radio station, WHRB (95.3 FM / whrb.org) from 10pm Friday to 9am Saturday and 10pm Saturday to 11am Sunday. If you're not in the area, catch it streaming or revel at the oddity of the WHRB Orgy tradition.

Smart design directors -- One Interactive, One unleaded -- that get branding

My work, one of the largest branding firms in the world, has two design director openings. One, a traditional graphic design guru, one an interactive wiz. They're looking for someone with eight+ years of experience in graphic design, leading teams, providing guidance to juniors and presenting to clients. I'm looking to work with incredibly smart people who can talk strategy *and* fonts. So far, I'm working with a lot of those. But there's the potential for a pompous InDesign monkey with a pretty resume to swoop in. And that will make my job, as a writer and person responsible for making presentations make sense, much harder. The official job posts are: here, but if you want a less boiler plate description of the gigs, or just your portfolio to get to creative directors, rather than just HR, let me know. I'm one of the few people in the building that works with everyone, and I promise to be frank. My email is in my profile.

Did I screw something up? Or is it just a MeFi glitch?

Any recommendations for books, movies or other where the main character is split – either along Freudian lines (Ego/Superego/Id) or just the simple Good Guy/Bad Guy divide (whether clearly stated or not)? [May contain mild spoilers on any number of things inside]

Access to old Hustler magazines?

I need, for sentimental reasons, a few old issues of Hustler magazine from the late 70s/early 80s. The problem? I'm not sure of the issue dates and it's not the kind of thing my local library carries. Where can I browse through old Hustlers?

How to best confine my dog?
