MeTa post: MetaFilter DNS records goofy?
This answer would be right at home in this thread.

MeTa post: London meetup, Saturday 26th July?
After much missing due to headaches and being on aircraft to other continents, I may actually make this one.

MeTa post: The Smoke meetup!
I'm in, but I'll vote against The Ten Bells. How about somewhere a bit bigger?

Cilit Bang, you live near me, it seems. Good ol' Har(r)inga(e)y.

There's got to be something big, warm and tube-acessable...

Oooh, I've never really played with the "Users Near Me," think.

oh pollo! appears to live in the park! Neat!

I'm happy to go for any of those places. I'll let others wiegh in on can-and-can'ts.

One thing to note about Ginglick at Shepherd's Bush... I think Shepherd's Bush is closed now for it's renovation. Might be difficult to access by tube. (Kensington Olympia is a 10 minute walk, but that station may as well not actually exist.)

I'll put my 2p in for the Medicine Bar in Angel, but only because it's close to me. Otherwise, I'm game. I'm still exploring London!

You're so cruel to that line.

Well, who the hell thinks "Salmon" is great colour for a tube line? I mean, c'mon.

But yeah. I'd be interested to know the West:East ration of London Mefites. There seem to be more East London folks than West.

I keep meaning to change my location to the middle of some railway tracks.

Do we have a time, in mine? (I realise that the meetup is a month away...)

MeTa post: Server like butta'
Tennis references are always weird on the internet

No kidding. I'm kind of in the market for a new managed server solution, and I actually Googled "Federer server" to learn about the company.

It kinda ruined the joke.

I'm a content manager.

I have two monitors.

The monitor on the right, named Wallace, is for working.

The monitor on the left, which I call Ronald, is for nothing but sheer, unadulterated slacking off.

This division of labour has served me very well.

I totally need to name my monitors.

I highly suggest it. "Ronald is SUCH a slacker."

You could run it kind of like an old newspaper serial, with a different author responsible for each episode.

Of course, everybody would have to agree beforehand on character ground rules and basic style, but it could work!

MeTa post: Do Some Users Really Only Stick With ONE Subsite?
I'd be curious to see how the actual traffic breaks down, assuming it's not a secret or anything.

I'm relatively certain there are a ton of lurkers in the grey who read the flameouts.

MeTa post: Those meddling kids!
I think Mefi may have just found it's biggest and most profitable business spin-off.

All Matt needs to do is leverage the combined brain and investigatory power of mefites, globally dispersed and expert in a variety of fields, and pitch it to magazines and newspapers.

Mefi could become the first outsourced fact-checking company.

There are also some non-Lychee martini places not far away.

If you're into pubs, (oddly, pubs with good Mexican food,) the Crown and Sceptre is not far away.*

* note: that spur of the District line to Olympia is about as frequent as a lunar eclipse.... [more]

He's from Trent University? I feel so dirty inside, now. My poor beautiful little liberal arts university.

For the record, Trent doesn't do "sigma cum laude" distinctions. I smell something fishy.

You give my alma matter a bad name, Dave Ritter.

Shit! I think I remember him! (Dis)Advantage: Small University.

Weird, I dimly recall him as a nice guy. Although I probably only talked to him when drunk. Or I'm thinking of someone else.
