I work at a vet hospital, and the best names I have ever seen are a cat named "Maudster.com" and a dog named "Steely Barbadoodle". I'll take a peek through the file room tomorrow to refresh my memory some more. posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 9:13 PM on November 11, 2008
Well, there was the whole controversy surrounding the infamous head butt in the World Cup, with lip readers hired to determine just what was said to inflame Zidane so much. posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 8:40 PM on November 11, 2008
At my supermarket they sell these little pouches of pre-made Naan (a Indian flatbread) that are delicious and the perfect size for an individual pizza. There are like three in a pouch, and while they don't last long once open, they keep reasonably well still sealed. posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 4:58 AM on November 7, 2008
As a American who is further left than any national politician has ever been (except maybe former Socialist Bernie Sanders), I have also always been proud of America and proud to be an American. Proud of the ideal, proud of the concept, proud of the promise. That hasn't been easy lately, but I have come to accept that you can be proud of your country and ashamed of your government. I am so glad that we will soon have a leader that I can be proud of -- what he is and what he represents. I... [more] posted to MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 8:16 PM on November 4, 2008
Oh awesome. I kind of collect these, and I am so thrilled to find this site. I have one that I love from home that has a silhouette baby happily sitting inside a closed Rubbermaid tub. Thanks sp160n. posted to MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 7:46 AM on November 4, 2008
Should he be masturbating a lot in order to clean the pipes out?
That's what my doctor recommended. That and sex, as long as we were using another kind of birth control.
If you've gone through this, how long did it take you to get the "all clear"?
All clear at one month. My doctor also recommends yearly checks to make sure there is no spontaneous reattachment -- very rare, but possible. posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 2:39 PM on November 1, 2008
Not really proud of this, but I always thought that the print looked a little... what's the equivalent of phallic, but for breasts? Boobular? Mammarish? I felt a little validated when she felt like she had to take it down for the adoption visit. posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 8:20 PM on October 31, 2008
Wow. One of my favorite Beatles' songs, and you've done a great job with it. Your vocals are great for the song. I feel like you've increased the "This Boy"-ness of the song by like 20%. Like you've made a reduction sauce of it. Thanks. posted to MeFi Music by Rock Steadyat 8:05 PM on October 31, 2008
To maximize the financial and experiential value of your ticket, I'd pick somewhere small (expensive flights) that you otherwise might never get to. How about Burlington, VT for a ski trip, or Martha's Vineyard, MA for an island getaway, northern California, New Orleans, Key West? posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 9:51 AM on October 31, 2008
I could see some really cool gameplay idea arising out of this. The first is resource management type stuff -- if you have limited "ammo" you have to make some touch choices about how much of the world to reveal. Thanks for the post. posted to MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 6:13 AM on October 31, 2008
Alternatively, find a woman who works in the store and ask her if he's available.
This is a very good idea, and a good way to avoid some potential embarrassment or uncomfortableness. As a newcomer, how about asking him about some upcoming town-wide event (Thanksgiving parades, Christmas pageants, and First Nights are all coming up) -- is it a cool thing, do people really go, where's the best seats, etc. Then you casually mention that you don't have... I truly don't get the fear of posting to the blue. The absolute worst thing that could happen is that people on the Internet will yell at you. Is that really so bad? posted to MetaTalk by Rock Steadyat 5:51 AM on October 24, 2008
But if deleted posts were any less obscure they wouldn't be very deleted, would they? posted to MetaTalk by Rock Steadyat 12:42 PM on October 24, 2008
I have been a staunch Stephen King apologist since I read It about 20 years ago. People seem to be coming around to the realization that he is an amazing storyteller, and that there are (usually) some meaningful and true ideas behind the stories, if you spend some time thinking about them. They are not necessarily the deepest or most nuanced ideas, but they are powerful. I'm a little troubled by the way he lately seems to want to wrap everything into his One True... The Dark Tower and all of his other works that tie into it, which personally I like. The man has created a huge catalogue of works, and it feels like an inside joke to me.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the way he would make subtle allusions to his other works, and returning to Derry in Insomnia felt so good, but it seems like since
You are specifically looking for the Text Animation settings under the Custom Animations task pane. Add an entrance animation to the whole text box. Then click the little "..." button next to the Property drop down. In the Text Animation tab, you want to group text by "1st level paragraphs." posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 4:53 AM on October 24, 2008
FOR SERIOUS THOUGH, DO THEY STILL GIVE EVERYONE AN ACTUAL CAP? I IMAGINE BECKS HAVING A CLOSET SOMEWHERE THAT HE JUST THROWS THEM IN AFTER HE GETS HOME FROM THE GAME AND SHUTS DOWN HIS ANDROID WIFE. posted to MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 7:37 AM on October 22, 2008
Our optical scan ballots sound similar, and we also are given black felt-tipped pens. Not sure if they have special ink in them or anything. posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 11:51 AM on October 20, 2008
I think I did a grand total of 1. I was looking forward to doing a few of these, but you people are too quick for me. Well done, tag brigade. posted to MetaTalk by Rock Steadyat 9:41 AM on October 20, 2008
Yes, a hearty tip o' the cap to the Rays from this Sox fan. Great team, great series. If the Sox had not been forced to run the corpses of Jason Varitek, David Ortiz, Josh Beckett and Mike Timlin out there it might have been a different story. Oh well, as one of the Sports Guys readers noted, the 2008 Red Sox just lost to the 2010 Red Sox.
Also, their graphic design was better last year with the forest green and white -- this new style is so bland. Matt Garza also... [more] posted to MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 6:50 AM on October 20, 2008
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Jumper by Steven Gould. Very soft SF, but a really interesting, thought-provoking book. About a boy who can teleport at will. It really explores every dimension of what having that power would mean. posted to Ask MetaFilter by Rock Steadyat 4:15 PM on October 18, 2008
