I need a crystal-clear transparent liquid that is as heavy (dense) or heavier than water, not dangerous, and not difficult to obtain. The heavier the better. The catch - it can't be water-based.

Digital Photo Frame (DPF) with wireless and wide viewing angle? I had my heart set on a
Sungale 15” DPF with wifi, but when I viewed one in-store, the screen was far more sensitive to viewer head position than the norm (both height and sideways angle), which is terrible for a DPF. Is there anything similar which uses a non-sucky screen, and how can I know, given that I can’t view it personally before buying?

Help me build a device to last the ages - and still function! For a hobby/art project, I'm building a pocket-sized gadget comprised of electronics, gears, metal, glass, wood, plastic, etc. Is there any particular book or other source that stands out as the bible on issues of long-lasting methods and materials? Ie covers questions like how transparent and strong various plastics remain after X years/decades of sun and UV? Which material/method of lubrication for gears will best last decades under X conditions? Which soldier alloy?

Other than asking friends, what do I look for / how do I find an incredible men's hair stylist? And once found, how do I help them help me? It's time for a major restyling but it will be a tall order if it can be pulled off, so I fear most stylists are going to think they're up to it, then botch it. How do you sleuth which stylists are the ones to trust?
(Bonus points for non-country-specific answers, so I can find good stylists wherever I go)

Fat: Insulation, padding, and storage. But are there any drawbacks to having low bodyfat that I might encounter? I'm lowering bodyfat - currently in the realm of fitness but perhaps going to touch on the realm of vanity. There seem to be no drawbacks currently, any exceptions? How much would the benefit be and how much fat involved? Are there optimum amounts (such as a point beyond which increased fat doesn't increase how long you could survive without food)? To what extent (any?) could fat from previous rich eating help nutritionally balance an unbalanced diet later on? To what extent could it not?

How to carry stuff hands-free without a style disaster: What is the most stylishly understated (dressy, even) backpack bag for an urban guy in his 30s, long past the schoolboy days? Is it a lost cause? Am I only deserving of fashion-police arrest? Style Mission Impossible: If a backpack seller did product-placement in The Matrix, and you were the designer entrusted to make it not terrible, what would you do? Are there re-imagined backpacks out there, like say, straps with a cut reminiscent of an open vest? Any alternatives as practical, yet (unlike laptop satchels) not equally dorky? There is also

I would like to make a "scientific discovery", or otherwise contribute something (however useful, or not) to the body of human knowledge. What are some unanswered questions, or unexplained details of the world, or (most especially) developing fields of inquirey, that an amateur might seek to investigate with possibility of making progress into the unexplored?

How do you eliminate fleas in a bed? I'm under the vague impression that flea-killing products have limited to no success against the eggs (is this correct?), which hatch 3 weeks later, so what is Standard Proceedure? Put the matress in a plastic bag for a month with some flea product inside and sleep on the couch?

How can I start saving for retirement when my career will likely take me from the USA to New Zealand? I wish to benefit from the tax-free nature of a saving scheme like the 401k plans, but I do not expect to spend all that much of my career (or lifetime) in the USA. Is there any way to move 401k savings to a similar scheme in New Zealand without losing it all to the tax penalties for early withdrawal? Are there any cunning alternatives?

Do such shoes exist? I'm planning a new look, and I'd love any tips on where to find black mens shoes that, unlike running shoes or sneakers, look vaguely like (informal)
dress shoes, but are in fact kickass running/climbing/jumping shoes in disguise.

Does this device exist, and if not, how can I modify cheap consumer digicams to create it:
A cheap portable digicam that will endlessly record video to some kind of small memory buffer, say enough memory for 1 minute of video, such that I could leave it running for days on the off-chance of it recording something interesting, and when something interesting happened, I just press a "Stop Recording" button, and the last 60 seconds of video are sitting in memory.

Is there a (silent) exercise machine that an office or cubical worker can use to exercise their legs while working at the computer. Not like a thighmaster, or rubber bands, but something more like a step-stair or cycle or similar system under the desk.

The opening sequence of an X-files episode, or real life?
There is a lot of
Strange News on the internet, but I particularly like ones that could be the beginning of an
X-files episode, potentially only the tip of an even stranger iceberg, yet are reliable and well documented, with
photographs of the mysterious blob, or
x-rays of strange events that the person in question can't shed light on. As a kid I once played in snow that,
much like this, soon turned out to be silk, and similarly read urban-legend-like news articles of a home suddenly plagued by thousands of large poisonous spiders, coming up from underneath it, stumping experts as well for the species was never known to be anything but solitary. I assume that frequently, the explanation is found but never makes the news, leaving the mystery unresolved to the rest of us. Many, like
Monkey-man attackers,
baby zombies and
strange killer grasshoppers have a death toll or leave scars, directly or indirectly.
There are plenty of people trying to present themselves as
real life x-files, but I'm more interested in well documented events which stand out as bizarre and creepy, without having any of that pushed upon them, and (with a bit of reckless imagination) hint at something bigger - preferably with photo goodness. You no doubt have links of your own. Why not share the better ones. (Or even make up a brief x-file-like mystery around a weird link, then post the link as if to show the story really happened :-)

I would like to have a Crazy (or Grand) Adventure, but it seems good adventures are harder to find than in the movies. Anyone know or can think of any good ideas? Difficulty: I'm aiming for a LOW likelihood of getting killed/arrested/maimed/sued, but a HIGH likelihood of Amazing Tales I can bore people with 50 years from now.

I'm seeking info on data/CD/paper/object archival storage for various stuff at my home. There are really two questions here:
1) Where can I find authoritive information about CD-ROM preserving/archival methods.
2) Where can I find info on building/converting a cabinet to a controlled environment on a low budget/DIY?

I want to find out how to get a durable glossy lacquered(?) wood finish for pseudo wooden instrument cases. I know almost nothing about varnish/lacquer. My
last attempt resulted in this, which is definitely the right look for the finish, but the problem is that it's far more prone to damage than it should be, such that I now feel I should try to keep the surface covered and protected, which makes me reluctant to actually ever take it out of the closet or use it.
