I should add that I am SO not a hipster. My songs all came from three places:
1 - A local music blog that posts mp3s.
2 - Friends who stay on top of music and were kind enough to let me borrow their CDs.
3 - Free itunes downloads that Starbucks handed out earlier this year.

I haven't done it since 2001, but I've been toying with the idea of tacking that mess of a story again this year. In 2001, I was running out of time and wound up throwing in a "sing the national anthem" contest, in which each character was quoted singing the whole thing (there are multiple verses) in order for me to meet my word count. I think I'll leave that part out this time around.

We had a nice simple wedding, with no bridesmaids, no photographer and all our favorite people.

We keep our money separate, pay the bills on an income proportionate basis, and set financial goals together.

We went to Montana on our honeymoon, but hope to go to Oaxaca and Istanbul on future vacations.

I have about a dozen questions I want to ask metafilter at any given time, but most of the time I hold back because I'm terrified that something IMPORTANT will happen and waiting until I can post again will have terrible consequences. Of course, thing important ever does happen, and eventually I get drunk or whatever and post idiotic questions that aren't even on my list because my mental filters are gone.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Matt said somewhere that he arbitrarily assigned the year 2000 to everyone who was a member at some point, because before that he didn't have records of when exactly people joined.

It was "Sometime in 1999" (cite).

Judging by the user numbers of posters in this thread, I'd say that these folks really were posting in 2000.

I found metafilter in late 2000, after the New Yorker's Rebecca Mead wrote "You've got blog" about megnut and kottke and other early blogs, and I went and searched out the web sites of everyone mentioned and followed the links here. I've gotten really nice messages from mefi folks a couple of times, and I've responded to most though one I didn't notice until so much time had passed that it would have been weird.

I've been posting here for years, and even though I know to expect a delay it still confuses me every time. The thing that gets me is that if I click the top question, I see my question in the little newer/older threads thing at the bottom of the page, and I can click over to my question, and then I go to the main ask page and refresh obsessively, sometimes for minutes, until my post actually appears.
