Playing for a week? It shouldn't be that hard. I feel a little better now about the many, many games linked off mefi that I fail completely at.

Sorry for recycling.

How Buildings Learn
I was thinking about design not living up to its purpose after watching the first episode of Architecture School on the Sundance channel or Hulu.com. They had a section where they interviewed New Orleans residents in the neighborhoods where the first two 'affordable' houses were built by Tulane architecture students.

I'm in the middle of the second part, and although it could use a little tighter editing, there are some great ideas. I think I'd prefer the book though.

Seriously though, worth checking out if only for some of the site features (although the flash implementation is mildly annoying).

But a resolution not to make uninvited sexual comments about other members would be a good prerequisite.
Maybe there should be a field in people's profile saying whether or not they are asking for sexual harrassment. I'm only being like 90% sarcastic on this point. I guess cluttering up profile and comment post pages with admonishments to behave like a decent human being wouldn't have much effect though.

It tastes like burning
Foods that I liked as a kid, but now can barely eat:
I no longer have the courage to chew jawbreakers into little pieces, and the flavor isn't worth sucking on them.
Bubblegum ice cream, or any kid marketed ice cream flavor. Any cheap ass ice-cream, popsickle, fudge-pop or orange push-up that you can get from the ice cream truck excepting the rare it's-it.

On the hotdog derail. I think what Cortex stated is an abomination, but apparently 23% of Americans and quite a few Germans agree with him. I will say that kosher hot dogs are not that great, and the best hot dogs have natural casings and taste more like bockwurst than baloney. Although I prefer few condiments on my hot dogs, I'm willing to entertain any but not all together of the following: mustard, onions, jalapenos, cheese, fresh salsa, curry.

YOU SAY IT WITH FORKED TONGUE, TOVARISCH.
No, I don't. It's a crime to take the great meat they put into kosher dogs and then cram it into a disgusting artificial casing or make it skinless so that all the juicy flavor leaks out when you cook it.
But then I only eat hot dogs about once a year because it's so hard to find the good stuff in the SF Bay Area.

The skydiving of candy is alternating Karikari ume or some other salty candy with super lemon (the hard candy with the lemon powder on the outside). Scratch that, it's not the skydiving of candy, it's more like riding a bucking rodeo bull of sour candy with your tongue.

I forgot one of my childhood pleasures that now disgusts me. Filling every single square on a waffle with syrup before eating. Note that this requires going back and refilling the starting squares as the syrup has started to soak through the waffle by the time you are done. Oh, and fake maple syrup, what's up with that?

The only time I played a cleric in D&D the character's name was Caine.
When signing onto online games I usually use brocaine, and it was just the first thing I thought of when coming up with an alias. I thought about train wrecks after an automobile hydroplaning accident at 70 miles an hour, where it felt like it took three minutes to come to a complete stop (at a 40 degree angle on top of a guardrail). Being on a runaway train would give you way too much time to think about your impending doom, and make you constantly wonder whether it would be worth jumping off.

Too small for Mirena IUD
From Wikipedia:
Contrel, the Belgian company that developed the frameless GyneFix IUD, is developing a lower-dose (14 micrograms levonorgestrel per day) T-frame IUS named Femilis. Femilis would come in a smaller size (Femilis Slim) for nulliparous women. It would be inserted without a plunger, and it is hoped its performance would be less dependent on the experience of the health care professional.

You could make a fourteen bean soup mix or something with a lot of fiber in it. My wife made cocoa mix with milk powder / cocoa / mini-marshmallows one christmas. The act of preparing it means he can spend a little time measuring out how much he wants to eat.

How do I handle my parents who only possibly mean well?
From a western lens what your parents did was utterly wrong, and quite deliberately invasive. However, I'm guessing that this is a cultural thing and you are straddling the boundary. I can't help you with that, but I'll say one thing. If they didn't already have a copy of your key, they've made one now. They won't hesitate to use it if they feel justified. The disturbing thing for me is the likelihood of pornographers using motion capture technology to create astonishingly realistic child pornography by mapping adult porn stars onto models of children. Given that this process can be used on existing film/video, they wont even have to hire actors.

Marissa Stole the Precious Thing, the Miller test may be sufficiently narrow to present pornographer's with a workaround. If they produced a film that had an anti-molestation message, and then included obscene content, I'm not sure what the courts would do with it. Especially if they were careful about distribution. I never would have guessed ahead of time that CPPA would get shut down by the Supremes, but it seems to me that defining legal limitations on speech without leaving loopholes is... [more]

Fighting the flu for 90 years
Brandz, I am not an immunologist, but from what I understand of the HIV vaccine efforts, it's a far more complex problem than any kind of flu vaccine. This news doesn't really tell us much about the mechanisms of the immune system for fighting an infection, just the lifespan of the memory cells. In other words, this may lead to new vaccine schedules, and broader spectrum flu vaccines.

Ex-criminal thinking of committing new crimes.
My limited experience in computer security is that no one wants to think about it or budget for it unless they get burned. You can't scare them into it without them fearing you, but maybe you could work an angle where you look for businesses/CEOs who've been burned recently and try to get your foot in the door while they are feeling vulnerable. The smart/paranoid ones are going to be looking very, very hard at you though.
