Why did Dish take away my MSNBC? And, more importantly, how can I get it back?

what i find interesting is that she considers herself to be gay now, even though she was previously married to a man (whom i presume she was attracted to when she got married), and never felt any same-sex attraction before meeting her current partner.

is the word "bisexual" just not in the dictionary of some monogamous folks?

The sad part about this proposed constitutional amendment is that "civil marriages and civil unions between people of the same sex is already illegal in Texas". Link to PDF.

MeFi post: Astroworld 1968-2005
Waterworld will also be closed, but many rides will be moved to Splashtown, another Six Flags park.

I went to Astroworld last weekend for a final visit and it was a nightmare. In all my years of going to that park (since I was a kid in the 70s) I've never seen the crowds that were there last weekend. It took an hour and a half just to get into the parking lot and another hour to get inside of the park.

On the plus side, all of the gift shop... [more]

Insomnia_lj, those are some great suggestions. Have you posted that in the new suggestions community?

Timory, that only lets you specify a city. I live in Houston, where someone could theoretically be 100+ miles from me and still live in Houston.

MeFi post: Hurricane Rita is now the third most powerful in recorded history
I'm in SW Houston. I had planned to head to College Station, but given that folks are spending 8 hours to go 20 miles, I'm afraid I'd run out of gas before getting there.

My house has never flooded (since 1969, that is), so I'm not worried about the rain. The high winds do worry me though.

So, I can try to evacuate and possibly run out of gas in the middle of nowhere, or I can stay and face the storm. Tough choice.

WolfDaddy, we're neighbors (I'm in Westbury). If you feel like your house is safe enough, stay in it. Sharpstown and Westbury tend to have street flooding, but not much flooding of the houses.

How sad. I truly enjoyed reading his blog because he gave such a different viewpoint than the mainstream media. I hope he gets some sort of television/movie/book deal out of this.

I was surprised to read that the evacuees were given food and water. I don't think I've seen that information anywhere else.

MeFi post: LA Gov plays 4 corners in NOLA
Looks like the Mayor and the National Guard have different opinions on mandatory evacuations.
Mayor C. Ray Nagin ordered law officers and the military late Tuesday to evacuate all holdouts — by force if necessary.
Active-military troops said they had no plans to use force. National Guard officers said they do not take orders from the mayor.

MeFi post: How many Katrina victims still forgotten?
Good Lord - I just heard this on CNN: CNN's Drew Griffin in New Orleans, Louisiana

I am stunned by an interview I conducted with New Orleans Detective Lawrence Dupree. He told me they were trying to rescue people with a helicopter and the people were so poor they were afraid it would cost too much to get a ride and they had no money for a "ticket." Dupree was shaken telling us the story. He just couldn't believe these people were afraid they'd be

The Democrats have Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Unfortunately, if those two keep putting a racial spin on the issue, I think most folks won't get behind them.
