Help me choose a new dog. I've been looking at different breeds and have come up empty. Here's my list of things to consider. Please ask if there is more that you think is relevant.
We have kids from infant to 7.
We have 1 middle-aged cat.
We have a suitable yard that I don't want destroyed.
I love the size and look of border collies.
I love the look of irish setters.
I love the look of bassets and beagles.
Central Iowa, but dog would sleep indoors.
Exercise is a daily walk.
Simply trained; no complex tricks, just sit, stay, heel, fetch.

What home-school software would you recommend? I'm thinking of something that will make assigning work, planning lessons, and tracking grades simple and easy.

Help me design a small Access application to run a prize drawing. As I see it, the MC will open the application and click the Draw button, which will select from the available prizes for that month. Once drawn, that prize becomes unavailable. MC will then type in the winner's name and click Save, setting the form ready for the next contestant.
Specs and examples follow.

Where to stay in Bradenton, FL?
I've got training sessions at 8985 Towncenter Pkwy and I'd like to see the gulf out my window, maybe walk on the beach, and have no more than a 20 minute drive to the training center. Any ideas?

Help me find a nice mom&pop motel on I-80 between North Platt and Grand Island, NE. This should be nice enough to not go "eww" at the bathroom, but less than $70. It'll be me, the mrs and three little ones.

How can I fix this permanently? In my toilet tank, the chain connecting the flusher handle to the rubber flapper binds up on itself. When this happens, the flapper doesn't seal well.
I have tried adjusting this longer and shorter. I have replaced it. I'm out of things to try. Surely there's a fix.

What options are available for children of 5 years with Migraine? Last night my son had his first. I started with them at 5 too, but back then there were to triptans or anything else. I've put the question in to the family doctor and haven't heard back yet, but I'm sure the answer I get will be limited to the Dr's experience and training. So, MeFi, what do you do for your kids when they suffer an attack?

I've created a button in Excel 2002 that runs some VBA when clicked. Works great. I've emailed the spreadsheet home and opened it with Excel 97 and clicking does nothing.
When I run the subroutine from VBA editor, it works fine. So, what gives? Why won't this work in Excel 97 and what can I change so that it will run in Excel 97 and beyond?
I've pasted the subroutine into the Extended box. Oh, and I'm really an infant with this, so please try and communicate on that level.

Citrix Metaframe XP. I need to disconnect all the clients at a preset time without my involvement at that time. The rest of the server and services needs to stay running, including any Term Serv clients. How?
Acceptable solutions include, but are not limited to, unpublishing the app, disabling the ICA protocol, and stopping the Metaframe server software. Client sessions will need to be forcefully disconnected. Data loss is not a concern.

Can a strut fail such that it doesn't move? My 96 Grand Prix has a rear wheel of which the suspension is a bit squashed in and stuck. It looks as though there is a bit of weight in the trunk, but of course there isn't. It won't compress when I push on the fender, nor will it extend when I jack up the car. Has anyone heard of this before? Can I do anything other than have new struts put in?

SQLBase Trouble -- Please Help
I've got an old version of ADP's software which is no longer supported. It giving an error from the SQLBase portion: 00803 Fatal SQLBase System Failure (ROW UEP). The service (running on Win2k Server) terminates when this happens, and this happens when anyone tries to log on to the software. What do I need to do to fix this?

I have a spot on the East side of my garage that just won't support grass. It's in deep thick shade and gets little water. The soil is heavy and clay-like. What kind of perennials would work here? Have you done this before? Have you any pictures?

I have an old Handspring Deluxe. While it doesn't seem at all deluxe these days, it does most of what I ask of it. One bit still baffles me though. I want to take my RSS feeds on the road with it.
Here's how I envision this working. I have a Bloglines account. Since I doubt this will be able to directly provide content for my Palm OS device, I'll take the OPML file and pull it into some locally installed aggregator software. Then when I hotsync, my handheld will pull down unread articles.
I don't really care if it categorizes articles, though that would be nice. I don't want the hotsync to mark transferred articles as read.
Can this be done? How?

When using my sewing machine, large loops and tangles of thread are generated on the bottom side of the fabric. What am I doing wrong and what do I need to do to remedy the problem?
