There were 30 players per squad in 1960, it seems. Also of note, was that for a few years starting in 1959, there were two all star games, a doubleheader spread out over consecutive days.

I'm downloading it for OS X as I write this. I have been using chimera quite a bit lately, and really like it. It's based off of Mozilla, but is nimble, quick, and has a nicer interface. Of course, it is still only at version 0.2.8.

pxe2000: I agree with you. Services like mp3.com, Pressplay, etc. do not appeal to me at all. I would love an online service that has hard to find albums, that are out of print or othewise unavailable. None of these services have that. The record industry's solution is the equivalent of a Sam Goody, or some other record store in a mall, when what I want is Aquarius Records or some other independent store with a huge selection of unique and hard to find records.... As for vinyl prices vs. cd prices, I think there are several variables in the mix. In the last five years, I have never seen vinyl versions of major label cheaper than their cd counterparts. In most cases, the vinyl versions are actually considerably more expensive because they are imported from the UK. For independent label stuff, I find most lps are priced around $7.99 - $9.99 in stores. This is usually a dollar or two under the cd prices. However, double and triple lp albums always cost more,... The company's database examines CDs' tables of contents down to slices just one-seventy-fifth of a second long. Copies that look identical at that scale almost always come from the same master copy, the company says.

So, while the RIAA is trying to crack down on filesharing services (and succeeding), there are still over ten-thousand copies of the album that originated elsewhere. It is not mentioned in the article, but I am assuming that the... [more]

tsarfan: Each "listen" in the Gracenote charts comes from a physical CD that is in your computer's CDROM drive. Winamp, Itunes, and other players use the CDDB(Gracenote) to get song information based on the CD's track layout. Since those programs usually store the information on your hard drive, they only contact the server once per unique CD. These charts have nothing to do with retailers.

I don't think that most of the listens for the album came from people breaking the street date on Saturday, but from bootleggers. I think the figures were tallied on Friday or even before.

In the case of the Eminem CD, eight slightly different versions accounted for most of the traffic. That means there's likely "eight major guys doing most of the pressing of this," Hyman said.

It was much better than I thought it would be. They glossed over several major issues, but I suppose walking the audience though all nine seasons with flashbacks would have taken three hours.

I'm probably alone in this, but I always enjoyed the episodes that had nothing to do with the overreaching alien conspiracy plot. The later season finales were just began to get too melodramatic for me.

I don't really think of Eyehategod as death metal. They're much more on the sludge/doom side. It was a nicely written appeal for those who aren't usually into that genre. Personally, I think the show has been going downhill for the last 3 years. I thought Fox would end it when Duchovny left, but I assume they wanted to milk it for all it was worth. Replacing the primary characters (Gillian Anderson had also been phasing out her involvement this season) and keeping the audience's interest is a tough stunt. I guess Fox figured if Law & Order could do it, the X-Files could too.

I was always more of a fan of the self-contained episodes. It became too much of an effort to keep up with the overreaching "arc", which consistently doubled back on itself and ultimately became too complicated to keep up with. I did like the movie, but I felt that was never dealt with afterwards on the show.

I read that Salon article, and was rather annoyed that the writer was down on the Xbox due to their dislike for Microsoft. He failed to mention a few key things. In terms of console specific games, Konami will also release Metal Gear Solid for the Xbox, and Tony Hawk 3 is being developed as well (As well as Activisions other extreme sports titles). You're right about SSX. That was the first game I picked up for the Playstation 2. I don't think it had the crossover of the Tony Hawk series, but still it had the best graphics and was the most fun launch title for the PS2.

It seems that Sony timed it so that there would be a wave of highly anticipated games coming out right around the launch of the Xbox and Gamecube. (and the holiday shopping season).

What amazes me is that the other children were made accomplices to this. You would think that if your own sister was being beaten to death, you would try and do something. Of course, they were probably afraid of their parent's wrath, or had undergone the same punishment before and had become desensitized to the violence in the house.

Um, they did ban Great Balls of Fire. However, Hendrix's Fire didn't make the list.
