Ask post: What accessories do I need for a macbook?
Depending on what you expect to do with the laptop when you are in the libraries, you may want to pick up the miniVGA to VGA adaptor so you can attach your laptop to external monitors and projectors. Definitely the extra adaptor, and I highly recommend the external hard drive for Time Machine. (I prefer Firewire ones to USB ones - I find them faster, and you won't have too much else plugged into the Firewire port). I suggest carrying around an ethernet cable when you travel - sometimes hotels... [more]

Ask post: Where to buy a suit that's comfortable when it's warm, in Vancouver?
Moores will sell you a perfectly serviceable lightweight wool suit that will travel fine - include a suit bag in your purchases you will still be well under your $800 budget (even including a shirt and tie and shoes). If you are looking for a suit that looks really good, and you want to spend most of your $800 budget on the suit itself (you already have the shirt, tie and shoes) I recommend heading off to Second Suit on West 4th (near Maple) where you can find consignment designer suits. Ask post: Doomed to a life of law-temp jobs?
I have no idea where I ranked in my law school (though I did okay - maybe 50-60th percentile), did nothing law related my first summer, took a year off in the middle to teach English in Japan, and then for my 3rd summer (4 year program) worked briefly (1 month) as a legal secretary. I graduated off tempo (from doing a semester abroad) so I didn't apply for articles until after everyone else. In fact, it took me almost a year to find a position with a sole practitioner - who didn't care about my... [more]

Let me recommend that you at least look at VMWare for your virtualization, as well. It can also run off your Boot Camp partition - you may want to check out some comparative reviews - lately it seems VMWare is the better virtual machine driver. I certainly prefer it. You may too.

Ask post: Are the numbers enough?
My personal info is way old (I went to law school from 1991-1996), but I remember only McGill and UVic as requiring anything other than GPA and LSAT for admission ranking. Personal statements were not a common thing in Canada - dunno if that's changed. If you plan on practicing in Canada, there is no reason to load yourself down with American law school debt, IMHO.

As for the prestige issue - it's much less of one in Canada than in the U.S. - really you want to go to law... [more]

Ask post: Here's a head scratcher
Nthing the journal - if you want to pinpoint possible causes without medical intervention - you need to keep a detailed log of everything you can think of and list how that affects your headache - only then can you start "control" experiments to see which are likely triggers.

I unfortunately have a headache all day every day, but I know that some things will reliably make it worse like reading when in motion or playing 3D games. The former was easy to diagnose... [more]

One advantage of the Navigo pass (the old Carte Orange is now Navigo) is that you can make it usable for the ubiquitous city bikes by paying a Euro. And the Navigo is an excellent deal (if you are arriving before Thursday).

Ask post: What should I know about living with someone from Japan?
As with any such situation, the specifics of the person outweigh the generalities of the group to which the person belongs, but that proviso out of the way:
Japanese ( esp. females) tend to be on the quieter, cleaner, more polite end of each of those three spectrums - particularly with people they don't know well.
Japanese customs rarely conflict in a unpleasant way with USian ones. She may prefer that you don't wear shoes in the apartment, for example.

Ask post: What can I expect from my colonoscopy?
I have them every two years (I've had about a dozen of them) from my IBD - so I can confirm that you want the easiest most effective prep - it's by far the worst part. One note, that I haven't seen others mention - when you are going to the bathroom for 4 hours+ straight - be gentle with your wiping - things can get chafed down there if you are too dilligent each cleansing. TMI, for sure, but I wish someone had told me beforehand...

Ask post: Practice makes perfect
I read current cases in my field. Seeing what other lawyers have argued, and what judges have accepted helps a little bit, but mostly it is being aware of what cases are there to argue with if a similar issue arises in one of my trials. It can be boring to read decisions on issues that don't currently apply to any of my files, but it definitely helps keep me current. At least they can sometimes be entertaining. Ask post: How do I stay more hydrated at night?
First, the 8 glasses thing is a myth. Not to suggest that you shouldn't be hydrating properly - but 9-13 cups - no.

Second, you don't "believe" you breathe through your mouth at night - but, how clear are your nasal passages when you wake? Do you find any blockage at all (not necessarily completely blocked)?

Another lawyer chiming in to refute The World Famous, and also to second very strongly what moxiedoll wrote. Yes, go - as long as the economics of this choice are not going to reduce greatly what choices you have after you graduate. And, just a word of warning - law school doesn't require you to be a lawyer later (as noted by meerkatty), but if you decide to be a lawyer, realize that it is nothing like law school. "dlink" is likely the brand name of the wireless router. It appears that someone has turned it on, and the default is engaged. As for the ethics of using it - what are the most probable internet services that this wireless router could be attached to (i.e. in your neighbourhood - who provides internet service?). If many or all of them have some sort of bandwidth cap, you should be more reticent to use this signal for any heavy downloading - also - connect to the signal and run a... [more]

Ask post: Pacific North West serial killer hotspot?
Having read relatively a lot about serial killers, given that there is no way to determine why people become serial killers, there's no way to determine why a particular area might engender more or less of them. That being said, serial killers tend (as much as they tend to anything) to pick as their victims the vulnerable (i.e. the homeless, hitchhikers, street walkers, etc.) since that way they are more likely to have the missing not be noticed, which means when the murder is discovered, it is... I have driven between Montreal and Calgary (in the summer), and Montreal and Vancouver (in September). The first time, I drove through Canada the entire way. The second time, I drove through the U.S. from Windsor to Blaine. IF you decide to drive (and ultimately, that's a decision based on more than just expenses - as others have noted), you may want to consider a drive through the States for most or some of your trip. Ask post: crazy people go to prison?
You most certainly need to speak to a lawyer, preferably one who specializes in criminal and mental health law, since, strangely enough, it may be better not to be "acquitted by reason of a mental disorder". This all depends very much where you are, the availability of psychiatric secure wards, and the principles and practice of your jurisdiction. If I can just suggest two other alternatives - yakitori (やきとり or 焼き鳥) sauce, which would very much be properly listed as a BBQ sauce, as would unagi (うなぎ) sauce. They are similar, so I couldn't say for sure which might be what you are looking for, maybe try each one? These are more translucent than tonkatsu or okonomiyaki sauce.

No information in your profile or your question about where you live or intend to practice. I work as a prosecutor in Canada, and I love what I do. It is a very different job than that of an ADA in the U.S. from what I understand, and I work (generally) far better hours than my private practice colleagues, and the compensation package is competitive, though not stellar. There is a Japanese program called "Trivia Stream" (Toribia no Izumi) or something akin to that - they had a segment where they wanted to know how much water pressure it would take to breach a porcelain urinal (I'm guessing much more difficult than slicing salami). They went off to some lab, and installed one of those "little pissing boy" statues onto a high power water jet. Then they ramped up the water pressure until it broke through the urinal. Also, generally, there are coin lockers in or nearby, so you can store your luggage. I never found anyone puking in the bathrooms, and as for Japanese smoking - that happens everywhere.
