Ask post: Birds do it, Bees do it...
For the Scandinavian trifecta let me just add that "blomsterne og bierne" (the flowers and the bees) is a common phrase in Danish as well.

Senuti is great for copying music from your iPod to your Mac. It can even automagically add the music to your iTunes library.

No, Apple makes a profit on iTunes. See here and here.

Ask post: How do normal people go about finding casual sex?
In my experience it's rarely casual sex for very long if it's with one of your friends. Someone usually develops feelings for the other and suddenly "casual" is out the window.

If you really want casual sex go chat up some women in bars or at private parties. I've generally had better luck at private parties but you have to be extra careful with making it clear that you're only interested in casual sex and not a relationship because the people you meet at... [more]

Ask post: I'm just not into you.
Just tell her. It'll probably not be the nicest conversation you're ever going to have but she has a right to know and the sooner you tell her the better.

Something like "Listen, I enjoyed myself last time but I don't think we should go out on another date. You're just not what I'm looking for in a relationship. Sorry."

Short and sweet. There's no reason to go into detail about how horrible she is or whatever. But you do need to tell... [more]

Ask post: How do I get Google to recognize a search for "melophobe" is a search for my webpage "mel.opho.be"?
A bunch of people have probably linked to del.icio.us with the word delicious being the link. That's why Google thinks del.icio.us is relevant when people search for delicious.

Ask post: What Macbook Pro should I get?
Thanks for all your answers so far. If anyone has any more insight please keep them coming.

gum: Are Macintoshes really that expensive in Denmark?

The 2.4 GHz Macbook Pro with the 4 gb upgrade is DKK 16,599. It's DKK 13,799 without the extra RAM. The 2.5 GHz version with 2 gb RAM is DKK 17,299. So yeah, they are a bit more expensive here. But you have to consider how weak the Dollar is when you make the comparison.... [more]

Ask post: Improve my pan-linguistic wordpower
This Dane often uses the Danish word hyggelig to describe something that's... well, cozy but that word just doesn't cover it. Here's a pretty good definition I found:

Hygge is usually inadequately translated as cosiness. This is too simplistic: cosiness relates to physical surroundings – a jersey can be cosy, or a warm bed - whereas hygge has more to do with people’s behaviour towards each other. It is the art of creating intimacy: a sense of... [more]

Another way to explain the use of jo would be to say that it indicates that the person saying jo wants to give a positive response to a question that contains the word not. In English I think one would need to repeat the verb of the question in order to make sense. If the question is asked without the word not you would use ja.

I don't know if they do uncles as farbror & morbror, or aunts as farsoster & morsoster (forgive the spelling -- can't find the danish characters right off hand, plus, well, jeg er Americansk...), or cousins that way. Perhaps sveskemus can confirm.

Almost. We cut off part of søster like this:

Farbror = father's brother
Morbror = mother's brother
Faster = father's sister
Moster = mother's sister

- Jack Daniels
- A Phillies baseball cap
- The movie Superbad
- Wild rice
- Good maple syrup (expensive, though)

Ask post: Airpot doesn't like me
Nobody seems to know what it actually does but when I used to have problems with my Airport Express I would check off "Use Interference Robustness" in the Airport menu in the top right corner. The problems went away by themselves after a couple of days, by the way, so I guess they could have had something to do with interference.

Ask post: what to do
Um, I thought you were married.

So let's see. You have a lazy boyfriend who drinks every day and has cheated on you. You converted your relationship into an open one which means that he is now free to see other women and while you have the same right you don't use it because you want to be exclusive. Why don't you tell him as nicely as you can to stop seeing other women and stop drinking every day or you'll leave him. You might also suggest that he get a job but don't... [more]

Ask post: Motion sickness relief wristbands any good?
My ex girlfriend used a cheaper seasickness relief band than the one you're linking to. They definitely helped her. Before she got them she would throw up whenever we would drive more than 30 minutes or so by train and whenever we flew. With the wristbands on she would feel nauseous but not throw up. Placebo effect or not, I would definitely say they work.

It is not possible to transfer music from an iPod to your iTunes library without third-party software. If your colleague is on a Mac they can use Senuti. I'm sure somebody here can recommend some Windows software which works the same way.

Oh, and if you want your co-worker to be able to play the music you've bought on iTunes you have to enter your iTunes password on their computer to allow it. iTunes will ask for this password the first time you try to play a song with DRM on it as far as I remember.

Ask post: I want to feel that good all the time!
Do this everyday:

Sleep till 11:30... drive a friend to their locked out car. Go home. Watch a Netflix DVD. Eat lunch. Go online. Play a game or two. Work on a friends website. Watch last Comic Standing, eat dinner (pizza) and go to bed at 12:20. Also, read for 10 minutes (how to win friends and influence people) and get up at 5:20. Wake up once at 3am and drink some water and take off your socks and shirt (it is hot).

No, seriously, sleep well,... [more]

The thing about fucking pigs and sheep reminds me of the song "Jeg vil i seng med de fleste" (I want to sleep with most people) by the quite popular Det Brune Punktum (the brown dot/period sign).

I began running this february. I wasn't in great shape but definitely also not totally out of shape. I ran 10k on my second or third run and it turned out to be easier than I had imagined beforehand.

Just run much slower than what feels natural. You should be able to have a conversation while running. Don't lose your breath. It might take you an hour and a half to do the 10k but at least you will have done it.
