Chapter Five: I Am Attacked By Wasps
Being stung by or squishing a wasp releases pheromones that encourage other wasps to attack. You may have squished one wasp by accident, or there may have been one wasp that was mean. This meanness is probably a genetic quirk that won't last many generations.
Those who are allergic to bees and such usually carry injections with them, or get treatments to make their body able to cope with them. Yellowjackets are pollinators too, by the by, and are a natural part of the... [more]

Please make me fit, oh MeFi
For weight training, make a sheet with your necessary exercises--usually about 10 different ones per day. Leave space so you can write down the number of reps and weight each day. Stretch before working out, of course, and if you can, split your exercises so you do pulling one day and pushing the other. It's also best to work from big muscles down to little muscles.
Or if you can, take a weight training class; the coaches are good at making sure you don't waste your time.

Alternate drink to coffee/tea?
The healthiest way for you to get a boost would be from fructose. A tall glass of orange juice has a lot of sugar. I'd steer clear from other juices, unless you can find one that doesn't have ascorbic acid (vitamin C) as a preservative--it's given me a tongue burn before and I don't know what it would do to your stomach.

Why is Pearl Jam more Classic Rock than Maiden?
I'd say it probably concedes with the rise of the internet--young people have a greater influence on language. "Classic Rock" is a also very vague definition for music invented by radio DJs, who naturally want to widen their variety of music in order to snag more listeners.
I first heard Nirvana referred to as classic rock a few years ago, from some kid around my age my dad naturally assumed I wanted to hang out with. What with one of his songs being used in... [more]

Stepdad + holiday visit = disaster
It would be much better if you simply talked to him about being more considerate around your house. Tell him it's very important to you, and that if he can't resist messing up your stuff he's going to have to stay at a motel when he visits.
My friends and I overstayed our welcome at one of our friend's houses (we partied there too much) so he had his roommate tell us we can't come over anymore. We don't. We also don't talk to him anymore and he has hardly any... [more]

on computer, everything should be working, isn't.
I tried another outlet, to no avail. It may simply be the power cord itself that doesn't bring enough power...
Unfortunately I don't have a screwdriver small enough to open my computer to have a look at the motherboard.

And no, I don't think the hard drive spins. The power supply shouldn't be broken just after a peaceful car drive, though.

Isn't it also a sort of breeding project? Maybe the reason black bears don't normally attack humans is because we've killed most of the ones that do.

The reverse-Goldilocks phenomenon
Well, does anyone ever ask for a nice bland bowl of anything?
I hope this isn't too off topic, but yes, I sometimes crave a bowl of plain rice or some rice cakes or plain white bread. I think this mostly happens when I'm depressed, though.

Well, the nerdy kids today take AP classes and get GPA's well above 4.0. Maybe it could be something like 4.8 IPA, where 4.8 is the alcohol percentage. Your beer's percentage is probably higher than that, but if not then the double meaning would be great.

In addition to the zoo, there's the Wild Animal Park, which has more of a natural feel. You get to ride a trolley around the park and oggle rhinos, giraffes and other ungulates.
Old Town has a lot of old buildings and people who know history. And I've heard rumors there's a really nice hat shop somewhere around there.

Sorry, that stuff isn't really that unusual. Something that is more unusual is probably the cave at La Jolla Cove. You have to pay someone at the store to go down into the cave. I wouldn't recommend it to the claustrophobic, as you have to go down a narrow tunnel with lots and lots of steps.
Near the Cave Store is a path that winds through some vegetation on the cliffs above the beach. If you're young and healthy you should be able to find a secret, uncrowded beach... [more]

Terrible memory inside..
Well, if I really want to learn the lyrics to a song I'll listen to it over and over again. Your friends who are singing along to the radio probably listen to the same station all the time and hear the same songs all the time.
But if I'm lazy I'll look up the lyrics and either sing them to myself if I can, or play the song and sing along. You'll probably have to do this for Bohemian Rhapsody.

Guilty as charged
My own philosophy is to blame myself for any problem I think I have the ability to fix. Maybe I can't stop America from torturing its prisoners, but I can cheer up my friend if he feels shitty, because it's my responsibility to do so.
Guilt is your conscience telling you to do something. If you really are feeling it, I suggest you get working.

Ants plus cat equals creepy, crawly danger
Why not simply caulk the places where the ants are getting into your home?
Also, if you're spraying raid on the ants and then cleaning it up it shouldn't be to bad, the only thing you should have to worry about is immediately throwing away any food that gets sprayed. Most bug killers smell awful and animals shouldn't be attracted to them.

wedding ring removed for sales pitch
This all depends on whether you believe in the "sanctity of marriage." As a child of divorced parents and a reader of Heinlein, I don't. In my eyes, people who want to "extent the possibility of fun" are alright, provided they aren't lying to their spouses. AS for preying on someone's biases to make a sale, that's part of the fun of capitalism, and as long as you don't actually lead the person on and break their heart, it's all good.

Mid-term for Schmoozing 301: Introverts v. Extroverts
I hate referring to people as types, but I think the more social people have to put the less social people on the spot, and encourage them to talk. Of course, if you actually try to arrange anything like this--putting people into types and telling them what to do--it'll all come off feeling like a social experiment, leaving everyone wondering if any of the camaraderie was genuine.

If you're afraid of environmental damage and political change, consider being a Democrat.
If you're not afraid of anything, then politics may not be for you.

true, spicynuts, but "can" might have replaced "should" because of verbal drift (kinda like genetic drift). "Can" is shorter and thus a bit more catchy, and phrases can endure changes that take away their intended meaning.
