What is the Apple aesthetic?
The DS Lite is not exactly what I'm looking for, because it has no glass, lucite, or clear materials. Just like the opaque eMac, it's different enough to be in a separate category. I'm also not talking about the iMac nor the clamshell iBooks; they're translucent colors, while I seek a fully transparent shell around graphite or snow or whatever.

Some more examples of what I'm talking about are:
The Apple Pro Mouse, SoundSticks II, this iPod case sort of fits the bill...

OK, I think I found the answer. Whilst browsing Mac accessories, I found a mouse described as "clear over white". Specifically, a review states:
“Happily, the basic Mouse/Mouse II symmetrical ovoid form factor has been retained with Danger Mouse, although in opaque white or black (or red, about which more below) livery rather than the clear-over-white motif of the older design. I do prefer the aesthetic effect of clear-over-white. The opaque color looks a... [more]

More searching reveals the phrase "crystal clear" when referring to the display. Also it's been called "the graphite and ice color scheme".

Aha! Apple themselves refer to it as "crystal clear enclosures".

Can I safely remove the usb drive?
In Linux I always unmount the drive. Often IO operations are put on hold, so to speak, and even when the file manager lists the file as copied it may not be so.

CBC FLV
I would contact the CBC and ask them to put it on Youtube, for two reasons. First, I'm sure they would appreciate being notified of additional venues for this video. Secondly, compressing FLV twice is going to look terrible.

When is the better living through chemistry?
That seems to be the idea, but if you read transhumanist blogs or essays, they talk about possible future technologies. There aren't reports of "how I like my hearing aid and how I think it could be improved", but there are dozens of authors pontificating on "how I will use nanotechnology in my Adrienne Barbeau-bot".

What are some mindblowing scientific concepts?
I would second No Absolute Time and The Double Slit Experiment.
The relative time theory says there is no clock, real or imagined, that tells the same time when moving as when it is still. When objects move, physics behave differently than when they are at rest (relative to the frame of reference). You can say particles decay at such-and-such speed, and disagree with your speedy friend who says they decay at a different speed, and... [more]

Tablets, the lease of these
I got a tablet last year and never looked back. Note-taking is so much easier: an infinite amount of paper and colored pens are at my disposal. In fact, when I had to hand-write notes, I sorely missed Edit Undo.
Two downsides I've found: battery life and noise. But those vary among device and personal preference.

scan my books
I would like to know this too. I have the same problem. A Yahoo Answers result turned up Scandex Systems, based in Tampa, Florida. Unfortunately I have no personal experience with them or any other service.

Another idea (in the legal dark gray area) is to search for ebooks of your content. If the book is popular enough, someone else has already scanned and OCR'd it.

Tell me about the Gizmo user experience.
Gizmo gives you a plain ol' SIP number. You find it by cliking on your Profile in the app. For example, mine is 1 (747) 635-8852. Any SIP adapter will have instructionson how to use it with your particular SIP number.

My Little Telephony
I would recommend Gizmo because it uses the open SIP technology. This means that you can call people with other SIP phones (like Vonage, EarthLink, etc) for free and vice versa. Yahoo and Skype will only work with their own users, or require you to pay to connect to the PSTN.
Furthermore, you have a much greater selection of telephone adapters if you should choose to get one. Also call recording is built into the application—I use it quite frequently.

White rabbit!
I read it (saying "rabbit rabbit" as the first words out of your mouth on the 1st) as a kid, in a magazine put out by the kids' TV channel Nickelodeon.

Mac FTP?
I would definitely recommend Cyberduck. It integrates flawlessly with SubEthaEdit (auto-upload on save is great, but I'd be surprised if an FTP app didn't have that feature). It updates you with the fantastic Growl, and I really like how effortless it makes everything.
Also you can't beat the good karma of open source.

iTunes BT plugin?
I imagine some sort of AppleScript could be used to call your favorite application to download the file and then add it to your iTunes library.

UltraEdit like app for the Mac??
I third jEdit. I love its cross-platform capabilities, and its feature set—already rich—can be extended with an easy-to-use Plugin Manager.

Combining .mp3 files
If you are at all concerned about audio quality, you won't use Audacity. It's transcoding your MP3s. I use MusiCutter or MP3 Direct Cut—wackybrit is right.

Best downloading of music and words?
If you mean classical literature, it's likely in the public domain (ergo, free!) and can be found at Project Gutenberg (here's some prettier/more semantic versions).
The best eBook seller (yeah, I know why pay for something you could get for free) is unquestionably Fictionwise. Cheap prices, and more importantly, they sell titles in a variety of formats.
As for spoken word recordings, you can find many (but not that much poetry, I'm afraid)... [more]

Can you recommend a camera phone?
I love my Moto v710. The megapixel camera has pretty good quality compared to everything else that Verizon was offering when I got it—about 4 months ago. Really you're going to have to limit your ideal phone to the ones offered by the carrier you choose.

Batch Processing of Audio Levels
I second zsazsa's suggestion. It's perfect. You never mentioned what file types you're using, but virtually every audio format on the planet (don't get me started on DSD) can be converted into PCM (ie WAV). You didn't mention MP3, and I would hope most studios wouldn't deliver lossy formats unless specifically asked for, so the MP3Gain suggestions are irrelevant (unless I'm blind and you mentioned MP3 somewhere).
