I'll be visiting the USA for a couple of weeks this summer, and I would like to attend a few classes at Caltech in order to get an idea of what school is like over the pond. Will I be able to do so?

I have almost finished my degree in computer science, and soon the Real Word awaits. I still have no idea what I'd like to be doing with my life. So, for those who have been able to find meaning and fulfillment in their jobs: how did you do it?

I'm looking for a symbol that represents mindfulness, as in "awareness of the present moment without conceptualizing it or adding anything to it".

Why is it more expensive to live in a city? Is it simply supply and demand? Bonus points for relevant references and data.

The pleasure of finding things out.
If you only watch one documentary on the subject of science this year, let is be this one. The brilliant physicist Richard Feynman is interviewed about a host of issues, such as [more inside].

Why do you need to have a certain amount of comments in order to be able to post a link to the front page?
I've just come across this
brilliant documentary about Richard Feynman, but I'm not allowed to post it.
You cannot post to the front page at this time. This can be due to one of several things. You may not have been a member long enough, you may not have posted enough comments, or you may have already posted a link in the past 24 hours.
I've been a member for quite a while and haven't posted any link on the front page yet, so the reason must be that I lack the required number of comments. I understand that people need to have an idea what kind of links are appropriate on the front page; the question is whether the amount of comments one makes is a good metric to determine this. I don't often feel the need to comment on front page postings.

I'm looking for software that will help me make better use of the time I spend on my computer. It should help me stay productive and discourage procrastination.

In a while I will be going on a round the world trip to do a bit of soul searching (and to have a lot of fun of course). I'm looking for books on the subject of travel, not the pragmatically oriented genre, but philosophically and spiritually inclined ones. I'd like to read true stories about open-minded people backpacking around the globe and learning something about themselves and the world. I'd like to taste their joys as well as their disappointments, their insights as well as their confusion experienced during long-term world-wide travel.

I'm doing some research for a paper about the ways in which computer science has been coping with program complexity throughout its short yet interesting history, and I'm worrying I might have overlooked some fundamental developments.

If you would have to choose a quote, verse, lyric, poem or other textual message to have tattooed on your body, what would it be? In what way is that text significant to you? Which body part would you put it on? Which representation system would you use?

How do you override gut emotional reactions?
In other words, how can you bring your feelings into agreement with a conflicting conclusion you have reached via rational thinking?

Summer is coming. I'm a student. I'd like to earn me some dosh in as pleasant a way as possible. Additionally, since I'm already sitting behind a darn desk for the whole friggin' year, I think it's time for a change. No coding. No system administration. No data entry. No QA. I think you catch my drift.

I've tried searching MeFi for similar requests, so please don't shoot me if this happens to have been requested before.
Anyhow, in the Ask MeFi section, wouldn't be handy if one could see the number of days one has to wait before being able to ask the next question?

I've been having some problems while trying to keep conversation going with people, even when I know them quite well. For some reason I really can't think of anything to say, and when I do I always think of myself as being quite a bore. Also, even though I love to laugh, it's very hard for me to come up with some decent jokes, puns or teases. Any advice on how to improve matters a bit? Thanks a lot in advance!
