This is my strategy: Generally speaking, I can hold my drink. I'm going to try to find one person to buy me a drink for every percentage point that I'm wrong by. By the end of the night I hope to be absolutely shitfaced.

Wanna have brunch in West Hollywood on Sunday?
I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. I'm downtown and I'm a freak who only relies on public transit (and friends) so West Hollywood is a little far out from me. But I'll keep up with the thread and see what's proposed.

This was the answer that was going through Sarah Palin's head when Katie Couric asked her to name another Supreme Court decision apart from Roe v Wade.
Thank you, I'll be here all week. Try the tahini.

I actually love the relationship questions. When I first hit in AskMe in the mornings I go directly for them. Bonus points for them being anonymous because there's a chance that its about heartache and liking/not liking putting things in various orifices and/or getting dressed up as a viking. It's my ghetto version of reality TV. I fucking hate the cat questions though.

There is a downtown apparently...
Fantastic. Well, I'm happy to sort out reservations for The Edison but I'm out of the country until the 5th. I'm happy with weekends and either of those I think is good for me, although seeing as my birthday is on the 19th I might be a little dusty on the 20th, but what the hell!

Yeah, it's true you can only get one but it's always well made and yes, it's 35 cents. The place does get crowded though so once we have a date in mind and numbers I'll call to make a reservation. I know that on a Wednesday reservations are already in for most days that week, so I think a week in advance should do it.

Whilst I'm on this patchy internet connection in Italy, I'll put my vote in for the 20th as that seems to be what most people are aiming for. Is that cool folks? If so, once I get back we'll take final numbers and I'll make a reservation for the Edison.

SCHEISSE! I can't make it on the 20th. I promised a friend that I'd come to her birthday bash and I just got an email that it's on the 20th (which isn't the day of her birthday I hasten to add.) Damn and blast, it all seemed so easy.

How about the week before, the 13th? Is there anything good on at The Smell then? Otherwise I fear that this might have to split into two meetups an Edison one and Smell one...

Well, if two meetups is the way then we should do a Thursday at the Edison to take advantage of the 35c Martinis. How about the 11th or the 18th?

Is this thread still alive?
I hope so. I just got back to the country, and I was waiting for some responses, but I guess I'll just chose a date and see if who can make it. So how about Thursday Sept 18th?

I'm still up for a meetup that then ends up at The Smell btw. I'm actually not too happy that I can't make the 20th as it seemed the best date, but I'm sure, seeing as quite a few folks seem to be keen on downtown meetups, that we could arrange another quite soon.

The 18th is at The Edison. I think that the 35c Martinis stop at 8pm, so 7pm is probably a good time to start... I'll book a table today for next week as it gets really busy there.

So, here's the deal: As I'm not sure quite how many can make it, I've been conservative and reserved a table for eight. So 6pm, Thursday 18th at the Edison it is.
If you think you can make it can you shoot me a MeMail? Next Thursday will be busy there, so it'd be good to get the numbers right. Also that way I'll mail you back with the reservation info.
Don't worry if you can't make it until later. I'll do my best to hold the fort down for a while!

I wonder why it's so bad in answer to the most hypothetical question possible to say that humans aren't all that great, and in all fairness should be wiped off the face of the earth? It was a shit question, more open-ended than something that's really very open-ended, and those 'negative' solutions were actually quite fair answers.

I mean, really - *how* many pig heads on spikes does a band really need on stage these days?
Four. Just so you know.

Region filter?
I'm from the UK, have lived in The Netherlands and now live in the US. One half of my family is Spanish and my parents live in Spain, so a regional filter wouldn't work so well for me, unless I could chose some parts of Europe and the US...

To use the musical analogy: if a professional musician hears someone happily singing out of tune as they stroll down the street, I'm sure they cringe inside. Fine, they can't help it. But if they mock the singer, or tap them on the shoulder and say "Excuse me, but you're not in tune, please take some lessons," then, you know, fuck them.

I watched this video and it's beyond me how anyone could view this as serious. Then again, knee-jerk reactionism to anything even approaching hinting at pedophilia seems to be as American as Apple Pie. I think gnfti's comments here have been great, and I too am a little pissed off with some of the Anti-Dutch reactions.
