Bad news - can anything make the wait any easier?
I've been where you are. Try to think about positive things - like the fact that Livingstone managed to make it home, and that you (being a good pet owner) recognized that something was wrong right away, and got him to the vet as soon as you could. You're doing the best you can for him, and Livingstone knows this, trust me.
I wouldn't advise trying to prep yourself for bad news - it never works, and (for me at least), it always makes things feel so much worse in the... [more]

MadMage - I'm so sorry to hear that, and I wish I could give you a big hug. I looked at his photo, and what a lovely cat he was. Shiny fur, content expression, the whole works.
You might want to have a look at this question I asked - many of the poems are for dogs, but there's a lot of great stuff there. Jessamyn's is particularly nice.
When my cat passed away, I wasn't ready to have another one straight away. One thing that helped was making... [more]

Fun activities for a couple at home
Listen to wfrgms. I was going to say what he said, but he put it much better that I ever could.
However - depending on the girl, she may think your Spider-Man sheets and action figure dioramas are cool. My boyfriend has a Star Wars Jedi blanket he's had since he was 13, and a bunch of funny comic figures, like Drinky Crow. They're not the focus of the apartment, just quirky side items, so it's interesting and fun.
Anyway, when I first visited... [more]

Help me bathe!
My friend broke her leg in six places - as to how she bathed during the cast/boot period, it was with the very helpful assistance of her mom. It was all pretty scary, because if she slipped again it was probably game over for the leg, but they managed. I believe she said she sat on the edge of the tub, then scooted over to the shower chair with some oversight from the aforementioned partner. When she had the cast on, they did sponge baths. During the boot period, it was back to regular showers,... [more]

¿Dónde está la biblioteca?
Can you take a learning holiday? Full immersion in a country that has your chosen language as its primary form of communication is always your best bet. Even a weekend would help. I used this to great effect with both French and Arabic - but the key is, when you get back, take every opportunity to keep using those skills.

Bed for a nomadic lifestyle?
Will you be staying in the States?
Also, my current s.o. has a futon - I made him ditch the frame, and now we just use the mattress on the floor - it's quite comfortable. Even for my 30-something body.

Is my cat abnormally stupid, or is she a little blind?
My dad has a blind cat - she gets around fine, including jumping up and down from beds, chairs, etc... She runs up and down stairs, trots around outside (under supervision), and knows where all her toys are.
So...I vote with the others who suggested your cat is a lovable goof. :)

Assume that I don't want to make gin
I'm apartment hunting now, too - and I'm with Jessamyn, I have to have a bathtub. If I buy a house (maybe in the next five years or so) same thing.
Then again, I also do other stuff in the tub - rinse out screens, soak delicate clothes, etc...

And it's not that hard to replace - just the lower dash has to come off. Don't let the shop tell you that the whole dash has to come off - I have a 91 Volvo 240, and the heater core went bad in it - and the entire car pretty much has to be disassembled to get to it. Not so with the S70 model.

My Migraine @ Work
Well, if it only lasts for a couple of hours, people that get migraines that last the typical 4 to 72 hours (like me) are going to have trouble believing that you actually have one.
If you've been diagnosed by your GP, could you get a letter from them stating that?

Well, if we're going to go that route (which isn't what she asked) - there's a bunch of AskMe's on what kind of inexpensive laptops to buy.
She never said where she sent it for repair - it might have been right back to the manufacturer.

That's exactly what it said in my first link.
"If the CPU heatsink is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is completely clogged."

Class Goat, I don't think that's true. Putting aside my personal experiences with bee swarms - just a couple around my family's house, and they were calm - the wiki article directly contradicts your claim of aggressiveness. So do other sources:
Bee swarms are not aggressive. If you find a swarm of honeybees on or near your property, don't worry! (Washington State Beekeepers Association)

Er, maybe look at how "riled up" they are with binoculars? I checked out the swarms that I saw from what I thought was a safe distance of about 10 feet away, for only a few minutes - said "Oooo cool!" and then booked it out of the vicinity.

And high kings boast their kin --

Then I gave the rest of them to him to read later on, since I know he'll never be 'done' with missing her - but maybe some of the grief is dissipated, leaving just good memories of a really great dog.

Is it car abuse?
Well, I can't say whether it's fraud - but when my '91 Volvo was hit on the street, the insurance company decided to write it off as salvage, and gave me a check for the value of the car, plus the salvage title. I just used the money for bills, like you're thinking of doing - because it was the left rear quarter panel that was dinged up, and the cost of bodywork would have been FAR more than the value of the car. (Hence the insurance company's decision!)
It's still running, too.

What did I hear in the woods?
I vote bobcat, too. Remember the part in Little House on the Prairie when Pa thinks he hears a woman screaming over at his neighbor's house? He treks over there in the dead of night, and it's all quiet - then finds tracks the next day that indicate the "panther" was watching him from a tree the whole time.
I've heard raccoons scream - but to me, it's pretty high-pitched - didn't sound like a human.

How can I make oral surgery into a lovely birthday present?
I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed at once - and didn't want to do anything but sleep the rest of the day. Like Civil_Disobedient mentioned, it was a good buzz. I would say to just make her comfortable - maybe take turns hanging out at her place afterwards - just to do simple things like bringing her drinks, something to read, fluffing pillows, etc...
Then, after about a week, take her out for a real birthday celebration!

Also...while I was living there in the Southeast of Morocco, I found that I felt much cooler (er, temperature-wise) if I wore a summer-weight djellaba, as opposed to tank tops and shorts. It also kept me from getting sunburnt - and as many of our extended family had skin that was just as fair as mine, or fairer, it was probably a concern for them, too.

My favorite is Vincent D'Onofrio's character on Law and Order : Criminal Intent.
