Modern rationalization
Third prize : Strott recalled thinking, "No, I'm emotionally damaged." Oh sheesh.

Sheesh, as in she had sex in front of the open window. Lesson learned. It's humiliating, yes, and those guys are assholes - but "emotionally damaged" sounds like something her lawyer prompted her to say.

Would this have been as big a deal if it hadn't been two girls having sex?

jb - I kind of doubt that medieval people were any more civilized - they probably had different views on sex, that's all.

From The Bostonist : "The Globe was friendly enough to run a photo of Cunha and Siemiesz, so that you can easily identify them if you are ever on the other side of a job interview."
They're going to be punished one way or another.

Well, emjay, I'm female. And actually, I've lived in environments that are a lot more repressive than this. The thing is, in this case, I think that this would have been barely a blip on the news feeds if it had been sex between a man and a woman. I don't really think the root here is privacy issues - there's some undercurrent regarding the lesbian/bisexual issue that makes it sensitive and divisive.

Skin raised and red
This happens to me quite often - seems worse in hot weather, too. For example, just last week - I simply picked up a couple of heavy boxes, and the insides of my arms had welts. My Dad said "You must have some kind of super immune system!" - which I pooh-poohed at the time, but now I plan on counting it as one of my mutant powers.

That one lady would have clearly benefited from the recent AskMe on bra fitting.

Re: my comment about the tight bra, and the ensuing "Fat people are attractive too amirite!" comments.
Um, I don't find her unattractive. It just made me physically uncomfortable to see how constricting that bra was - double boob and all. Furthermore, I'm far from skinny, so I'm the last person who would call her out on her weight. If you've got the curves, you know, work them, don't bind them.

And furthermore, I went to get a bra fitting at Nordstrom's because of that very AskMe, and it was awesome. I've been wearing the wrong size bra for years (boo hiss Victoria's Secret staff) and discovered I'm actually a 36DD. I think that lady would look fabulous if she had on something like this, for example. [nsfw]

"They have found a makeshift shower room, cooking rings for the secret family to heat food, and a room lined entirely in rubber whose use is unknown."

Seanyboy: "Don't give me that vishnu line. I'm not going to see the error of my ways by being asked how I'd feel praying to one of your crazy muslim gods."
1. Vishnu is a Hindu god. Islam has only one god, that would be Allah.
2. No matter how ticked you're getting, the "crazy Muslim gods" statement was unnecessary and ignorant.

Nasreddin : I'm not in the least ticked at seanyboy. I read not only that comment, but all of his comments in this thread. Though his opinions seem to be at odds with some people, he's well-spoken, and I appreciate that. That's why his Vishnu/Muslim gods comment seemed so jarring, whether it was intended as a joke or not.
However, he very graciously apologized, and I thank him for that.
As for your comment to me, I offer no apology in return.

This is a story about a girl
I always see full names and addresses in the letters section of my old Conan comics, and sometimes I want to write to guys that had hilarious (but dead-serious, to them) comments, or completely nerdy self-chosen nicknames like Bob "The Hawkman" Miller. Yeah, I know they've probably moved out of their parents' house long ago...wait, maybe not.

Oh we do, we do. Give me a charismatic punk boy with a bad attitude - not that amalgamation of outdated trends, bad clothing choices, and a very thin veneer of prettiness.

"tell me that Mystery isn't attractive and charismatic when compared with:
a.) Neil Strauss
b.) Ross Jeffreys"
Of the three (forced to choose) I'd pick Neil. I'd be wondering which team he was on, though.
Looks do matter, and Mystery's are..well, ugh.

JonMC, is this self-deprecation part of your schtick, or do you really believe it? Like in this picture - why do you assume the girls are looking at your friend? You're really cute.

I'd also like to punch Mystery. Since I'm not exactly a martial arts/fighting expert, I might have to settle for tripping him.
Also, JonMC, a lot of guys wish they were as attractive as you.

I'll admit that if you put Mystery in a plain white t-shirt and jeans, and he didn't open his mouth, he'd be attractive. That's the sole reason why I find Neil more attractive - because he's reasonably good looking, and not such a prick. As for Ross Jeffries, though...no. I'm sure someone finds him attractive, just not me.

"talk a more egalitarian game than they actually play."
Not true. You chose to play the comedy relief, I think. It could have easily gone the other way - with him being the cute but stupid oaf, and you the smartass player.

OMG, Ms. Lynnster, come back, we have another cute guy on MeFi! I must disagree with Crab Apple - the goggles are just off kilter enough to make the wearer look both fun and a bit mad. Excellent combination.
In fact, I would like to take this opportunity (I know I'm talking to myself at this point in the thread) to mention which nationality was the one that consistently drank everyone else under the table during our late night soirées at the hotel - yes, the Aussies.... [more]
