I find it interesting, all the different things that people project onto it

I think people just compare it to what they know. I don't listen to emo or sweet folk -- actually, I don't think I could even define either of those very clearly. I don't listen to Fountains of Wayne. I do, however, listen to Nickel Creek. Just a perspective thing. :)
