I clearly recall taking a piece of chocolate cake with thick, chocolate icing, and carefully eating only the cake -- so as to leave the icing for last
I still do that. In fact, at parties I eat the icing other people leave on their plates, so keep on doing what you're doing, and I'll be there... waiting.

Here we go again, I love my best friend!
Over thinking and over talking killed your chance at a physical relationship with this girl.
Or possibly it was just the fact that she's not sexually attracted to him.
Don't blame yourself. Don't try to pinpoint what you did wrong. I've been on both sides of this, and you're just going to have to give yourself some time. When you're feeling low, repeat out loud, "This will pass." Because it will, and you'll find someone.

Thanks all. I called BARC but got a voice mail saying they're not taking any dogs right now. Keep 'em coming.
Is that a widespread rumor about the ASPCA - has anyone else heard it? Anyway, I'm certainly glad it's not true.

Thanks guys. I actually found the Sean Casey Animal Rescue (also called The Dog House, I think) this morning, and passed the number onto my friend. I'm still waiting to hear back from him.
How willing are shelters to perform medical procedures on animals before they put them up for adoption? She has a prolapsed uterus. I can afford to spend some money on her, but I have no idea how much money a surgery like that would take. Poor thing - she's remarkably friendly for a... [more]

Update! My friend (the same one from this morning) took the dog home. Supposedly it's just until we can find her a permanent home, but I have a feeling this is the start of a beautiful friendship. He's already starting coming up with names for her. This would be his third rescue dog.
So the crisis is over. Thanks again, to all of you - you guys have really impressed me with your compassion and your offers of help.

One more update: Jerry took her to the vet yesterday for her shots. She's 45 pounds and about 18 months old. I was wrong about the prolapsed uterus - apparently she's just in heat and swollen. I must say, I've never seen anything like that, and I grew up with dogs, but then again, I don't know much about pit bulls.
Here are some pics.
She's going to an adoption fair on Saturday, and we've sent out emails to our friends as well. Things are looking... [more]

Party perfect
Great answers, guys!
It's not going to be a super formal affair - in fact I just got a quote from the restaurant I was considering, and it's way over my budget. My plan was to treat them all to a light dinner and then take them all out for karaoke nearby. Another option is renting a room in a pub and bringing in my own food/karaoke.
I want to send paper invitations because, well, like jamaro said, it's just nice to get something in the mail, and... [more]

This is very helpful.
The "formal" invitation is actually going to be pretty tongue-in-cheek. The front is a picture of me on my first birthday, screaming my head off. The invitation will be pink, and the first line is "Come to my party or I'll cry". But the font and layout is going to be very traditional. I thought it would be fun to mix the silly and the classic.

How would I go about dyeing my eyebrows?
I think dark eyebrows look kind of neat with blonde hair, and they should be at least a little bit darker than your hair at any rate. Would you consider just covering the gray instead of bleaching them lighter? When I was a redhead, I had them dyed at the salon, and I did them at home, with equally good results. You could try something like this.

best remedy for being 34?
I've had two major laser resurfacings, but I think in the end, the TCA chemical peels benefited me the most. I had pretty serious melasma, and the peels pretty much took care of it. If you get a series of TCA peels, you should see a difference. TCA peels were once only done in a doctor's office, but now you can get them in some spas.
It does burn while they're applying the chemical, but afterwards there's no ongoing pain. Your face will turn a little pink, and for a few... [more]

Pipti - the first set of peels I had done when I lived in Cincinnati. The second peel was done in Manhattan at GKay Skin Care.
Melasma is a little bit more involved than just a few brown spots. "Melasma" translates to "mask of pregnancy". I had large patches of discolored skin all over my face. If it can take care of that, I imagine you can benefit.
By the way, my melasma wasn't a result of pregnancy. It came about as a result... [more]

I think it might be a good idea to go to a dermatologist first. Look for one who does peels and laser treatments. Ask him what he thinks will be the best option for you. You might be able to have it done right then. Or you could wait and have one done at a spa - might be a bit cheaper.

Mosquito Magic Uncovered!
I am by no means an expert, but when I was a child I was covered in mosquito bites in the summer. Now I never see a mark and haven't for years. I've been told that mosquitoes don't single anyone out, but some people are allergic to their bites, and that's what causes the swelling. Since allergies can sometimes resolve themselves, you've probably just outgrown it.

I too have the flexibility of a two-by-four, at least on my right side. My trainer swears by foam core rolling, as do many others I've met. He said he had to stop running because of injuries until he discovered the foam roller, and now he can run again.

Yes, sleepy sex can be very good. It's nice to wake up in the morning when you're all warm and relaxed and in no particular hurry. But that warm fuzzy morning feeling is not the same as being tired. The bacon in my refrigerator is 70 calories a slice according to the package, and it's just regular old bacon. That comes out to 420 for 6 slices, which is more than the website states, but it's still not 850!
Are you guys battering your bacon and deep frying it? 'Cause that might explain it. Don't do that.
