Pollomacho, you just had to go and ruin the perfectness of having only 7 comments in this thread, didn't you?

These seem pretty awesome. Brings a little bit of whimsy to one's life. I hate these kind of things that leave a huge mess, though (Union Square pillow fight, I'm looking at YOU).

One of the few to know about Newman's illness is his "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" costar and good pal, Robert Redford.
It ain't few anymore.

The "dynamic octagenarian duo"
Their Darjeeling Limited review has quite a bit of good sparring. It was like watching a more mentally-together version of my grandparents reenacting my mental dialogue of why I liked and had problems with that film. Bravo, highly enjoyable.

No glove boning for me.
I can't do deep frying. It's a hassle and I never have the optimal equipment. My roommate had a fry part once, and we were wiping grease off every surface of the kitchen for at least a week.
Other than that, I don't eat meat, but I'd probably be very very lazy when it comes to deboning, butchering, and such.

I had one of these tasting parties once before. Several other Mefites were in attendance. The best by far was biting into lemon or grapefruit slices and having them taste like they were dipped in powdered sugar.

Meatyard is one of my favorite photographers. I recently unearthed a book I had of his (sadly, it's now packed up, without proper time to fully appreciate it). This post is great.

Can't predict fasion, though, can you?
That's what's always fascinated me about scifi films, the era it was made in is so easily seen by hairstyles and clothing.
This is my favorite, though. An evening gathered around the cancer machine.

Please be viral. Too much of it is just too creepily acted but "totally not acted." This has to be fake.
Otherwise I feel the tears well up for all of goddamned humanity

Oh man, also, this all fits in so well with Bitch magazine's article about the portrayal and concept of the female robot. (I wish I could find a link to the article).

That Mambo never fails to knock my socks off.
I had the incredible fortune of being able to watch Dudamel conduct in Disney Hall at the end of March. I was also lucky enough to be in a spot where I could see his face. He worked without a score and was so incredibly nuanced with his face and hands. It was such a treat to see someone that totally into the music they were conducting. Based on the incredible performances he gets out of the groups, you the feeling that he... [more]

Grand Theft Auto IV graphical comparison with real life
Swear to GOD, I found my apartment in this game. It's right by the Steinway Beer Garden, just like the Bohemia Beer Garden IRL. It was creepy how many details matched up, from the double fan in the front window to the empty business space for rent downstairs. You haven't lived until you've fake stolen a fake car from your fake apartment that is creepily like your real one. If only I could trash my awful neighbor's apartment in the game, I'd be able to blow off a lot of steam.

Fancy a fry-up?
OMG, the (mostly crappy) grocery store near me in Queens sell the Heinez beans in tomato sauce. I buy them once every couple months JUST to make beans on toast, fried eggs, veggie sausage* and fried mushrooms (quartered). So. Damn. Good. Seriously. Do not knock unless you give it a try.
And now I'm starving for all that. Well, I'll make a trip to the store before breakfast so I can indulge.

What goes up...
The Bronx family-court system, for example, was in a shambles last year because the elevators at its courthouse kept breaking down. (The stairs are closed, owing to security concerns.) This led to hour-long waits, which led to missed court dates, needless arrest warrants, and life-altering family strife.
I found this part incredibly depressing. Some of the lowest income families in the city got their lives even more fucked up because of improper... [more]

We got screwed on ice cream too, come to think of it.
When we were growing up, there was no ice cream truck. There was only the music truck.
My Ex's older siblings grew up thinking it was the FISH WAGON. No kid grows up begging for money for the fish wagon.

Guaranteed laughs
I was so happy to see Ernie Kovacs make the list (and pretty high, too at 7). He was insanely funny, and it's a stone cold shame that so much of his work was lost or destroyed. My dad was a huge fan of his as a kid, crediting him with his love of classical music to this day, and absolutely loves telling me about his one encounter with the comedian. He was passing outside Kovacs' studio in New York, when he saw Ernie leaving the building. Completely star struck, my dad ran up to him, and... [more]

Danny Boy by the Muppets
On St. Patrick's day couple years ago I went to a dinner party thrown by some friends of my parents. I was by far the youngest person in attendance. I was already a bit on edge, because I didn't know the hosts very well and I wasn't going to know anyone else at the gathering either. I was completely petrified when I saw that 1) these people were loaded and 2) I was the first to arrive. While I tried to compose myself and deal with the situation the host came up to me, and in his Locust... [more]
