You and I will be switching places, ludwig_van. I'm in Philly that weekend for PC orientation. Have fun, though.

MeTa post: Stinking of gin...
Incompl's prose reeks of fedoras.

I can guarantee he's not that dude. For reals.

Look, incomple has already come in and apologized, he's more than likely realized now why this is all not worth pursuing. Can we just shut this down and move on? I'm finding these personal attacks rather depressing.

MeTa post: One definite, one possible
This is what happens when I don't check MeTa for a couple days... I miss more meetup opportunities!

Do we know what area would be convenient to Specklet? Is food or booze preferred?

Also, brujita, you'll probably ave to open a second thread about Boston since all that info is below the fold, and I kinda doubt any bostonians are gonna check a NY meetup thread.

MeTa post: May Day Bank Holiday Weekend in New York!
Oh! Yes! I'm totally down for htis and it's right before my birfday. (If it's Sunday, please after 6). And if you are satying in the east vallage, you're in luck, as we rarely venture north of 15th or west of 3rd.

MeTa post: New York Comic Con 08 "Wooo!"
If you guys venture out of the Javits center at any point, I may be able to hang out. I can't afford a pass, though.
posted to MetaTalk by piratebowling at 1:08 PM on April 10, 2008
Oh, and I forgot to mention, it'd have to be after 6. No idea if that changes anything
posted to MetaTalk by piratebowling at 2:26 PM on April 10, 2008
I mean to say after 6 for me. Gah. Not expressing myself well/
posted to MetaTalk by piratebowling at 2:26 PM on April 10, 2008
so, um...anything get decided with this? Do we have a time date or location outside Javits, or are you all just gonna try to meet up in there?

MeTa post: Not funny.
for example, i bet that nobody in america was making jokes about september 11, that very morning.

My friend worked at his high school radio station that morning, and he was got people calling in with twin tower jokes (he had made no request on air to collect them). So, you're wrong, we have assholes here in America, too.

Since your excellent question was deleted, I'm gonna take a stab at answering it here and say 237 pages.

MeTa post: Favorites Filter
I always love these threads where people bitch and moan about how scanning a longer thread is just to hard, and could the admins please program something to make skimming for awesome one-liners and stuff that will end up on the sidebar easier. I'm sorry, do you have a presentation due soon that will determine whether or not you get a raise? Are you supposed to lead a discussion about the Charlton Heston Death Thread Shitstorm, and you don't want it too look like you didn't do the research?... [more]

MeTa post: Look, Ma, I'm full of piss and vinegar
I was grateful for the thread because it allowed me to write a note to my roommates suggesting that they dedicate the 15th anniversary edition of their former college's newspaper to Chuck Heston. Not only did they try to form a society for the prevention of planet of the apes, but a large portion of the paper was dedicated to pissing off the (majority) hippie population of that school.
posted to MetaTalk by piratebowling at 1:07 PM on April 6, 2008
Right. You do understand that the movie "Planet of the Apes" was based on the book, and the book was an allegory about race relations, colonialism and post-colonialism, right? And that "a society for the prevention of planet of the apes" sounds a bit like something David Duke would sponsor, or Lou Dobbs would praise, right?

They just wanted money from their school so they could train a bear to fight kung fu and fight the apes that... [more]

MeTa post: Boobs + Cured meat /= Best of the Web
I have to say delmoi was pretty much a dick in that thread. Linking to shots of her where her face was show when it clearly said she wanted the revealing shots to be cropped is just fucking awful.

Thanks for that, jessamyn, and sorry for that outburst. It just really pissed me off and I didn't have a chance to vent in the original thread.

MeTa post: Sans quoi?
I agree with CunningLinguist, this just screams un owen's drama. The complicated as hell back story. The need to post a long thread putting all the pieces together, with a "hope that helps" tone. It just all seems calculated and made up at the same time, that it's easy to see why it raises suspicions.

I'm making a bright red, construction paper covered box, and I expect it to be filled with cards from this meetup. Comeon, MeFi, don't make me cry more than I normally do on this holiday.

MeTa post: LOLMORMONS
I'm pretty sure it's got nothing to do with Mormonism specifically. MeFi is just lousy with discussing anything that approaches religion (this, somewhat counterintuitively, also includes atheism.)

This is why Heath Ledger is only spoke of well in an obit thread, but if Tom Cruise were to die, the discussion would all be for the lulz.

Although it's nice to see people being a little more thoughtful of others, I kind of agree with ND[cent] in the sense that if you really mean it, perhaps MeFi Mail is a better way to hash out any personal conflicts. It gives other people no real chance to be smartasses.

MeTa post: Merry Christmas, MeFi!
I thought this was going to be my first orphaned Christmas, as I had no realistic way to get home this year. Then I made plans for a Jewish Christmas of Chinese food and a movie. Then I found out my ex-boyfriend is going to be orphaned in NYC as well. Then I got invited to another movie and mulled wine. So now I have the busiest Christmas in recent memory ahead of me, hanging out with three groups of people. Thanks, Santa!

He officially goes on the list of people I bizarrely resemble (alongside such proud company as Alyssa Milano, Winona Ryder, and Speed Racer).

Huh, I've gotten Winona Ryder, too, but that's usually from people trying to flatter me. I get Moira Kelly much more frequently, especially from The Cutting Edge time period.

I was almost 40 before I realized that "The Beatles" is spelled that way because Beat is a pun on, you know, the beat, like music and all that?

In 4th grade (in 1994-ish) I wrote a report on beetles, the insect, only I spelled it "beatles" throughout the entire report. That came back with so many red marks, and I just didn't understand why. I still have no idea if my teacher thought I was touched in the head or awesome.

Whiskey and French cigarettes,
a motorbike with high-speed jets,
a Waterpik, a Cuisinart
and a hypo-allergenic dog.
I want all the luxuries of the modern age,
and every item on every page
in the Lillian Vernon catalogue.
