MeFi post: There are no traffic jams along the extra mile
(If you really really want to believe what that blogger wrote, read no further.) Here's why some of us are suspicious: the writer says that Zappos requires returns to be sent within 15 days, and the customer has to get the package to UPS. In reality, you have way more time than that, and your mail carrier will probably pick up the postage-paid box, like mine does. "You can return your purchase for up to 365 days from the purchase date....We will provide you with a pre-paid UPS or USPS... [more]

MeFi post: My mother is a fish.
Read 'em out loud. The translating machine doesn't know from rhythm.

Seriously -- I wouldn't have scored too well if I'd submitted my answers right away. Before I clicked 'submit,' I read the sentences/fragments out loud. That led me to change three of my answers, and I scored 92. (I did read a lot of Faulkner back when I was smart.)

MeFi post: Impossible Watch?
I agree with mzurer -- it's easy to see some differences between the image Randi shows and another (undoctored? less doctored?) photo, such as this one. Look at them side by side and you see that some of the minutes markings have been moved, possibly to enhance the look of the small inset dials. It's a stretch, but maybe Rani is saying you can't have a watch that looks like the enhanced one, because markings for minutes 10, 20, 26, 34, 40, and 50 aren't in their proper positions.... [more]

MeFi post: Why so many questions?
When I asked a friend at Amazon what was new, she showed me Askville. We tried it out -- I can't remember what our question was, but I can tell you it was just as lame as the average entry. When the useless answers came back (within seconds), I blurted, "But why would anyone want to use this?? She said, "For something to do, when they're sitting around doing nothing."

I know it was a rhetorical question, but I'm just sitting here with nothing to do.

MeFi post: pill poppin'
When I read Olen's 'Nanny blog' piece in the Times yesterday (knowing nothing about the Nanny's blog) I didn't get a favorable impression of the author.

She hired a nanny, found out about the nanny's blog, felt uncomfortable about what she read in the nanny's blog, said nothing about it to the nanny, stewed over it, "monitored her online life almost obsessively," let it become a much bigger problem than necessary, and finally had her husband fire the nanny...
