Pretty sure mass media in the US puts out material more casually Islamaphibic than Jyllands Posten did in 2005 every single day. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 5:25 AM on October 19, 2013
Well that's where the whole "America can't be judged as a whole! But everywhere else can!" dodge comes in. Self serving ostrich headed bullshit, I'm afraid. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 6:20 AM on October 19, 2013

The KC Star article is superb investigative journalism, and truly best of the web.
Yes. Well worth posting. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 2:18 AM on October 15, 2013
Third, specifically, there have been a number of horrible cases very similar to this (smalltown high school football players rape a girl, then corrupt local justice system does not penalize them, and the girl or her family suffer) in the last few years, and we've had threads about several of them, which have led to the same huge fights on MeFi.
We discussed Steubenville, yes. It seemed worth discussing. I certainly stand by making a post on it.... [more] posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 2:29 AM on October 15, 2013
Is that addressed to me?
So we're NOT to discuss how a better FPP could be made around this article? TBH I don't see any point to this Meta if we don't. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 2:48 AM on October 15, 2013
If no one else does I'll be making a post on this subject tomorrow. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 4:35 AM on October 15, 2013
It's a good link, it deserved a second chance. I'd advise reading it. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 12:09 PM on October 15, 2013
Pretty sure you can answer your own question by reading the links. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 1:36 PM on October 15, 2013
To me the main problem with the original FPP was that it was sprawling in a way that detracted from a really strong central link - I didn't seek to exclude other material so much as build out from that link with a few other links. My natural inclination is to make FPPs as small as possible and if this one hadn't been around the block already I'd probably have gone with the Kansas City Star link only, but that would probably be begging for deletion. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 11:58 AM on October 16, 2013
I tried to look at my earliest comment on the profile page and the server timed out... So we'll never know.
Probably something to do with Doctor Who or Batman. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 11:00 AM on October 11, 2013
Nope, turns out it was to inform someone of the UK usage of the word "reckon", followed shortly by several discussions about terrorism. Ah, 2005. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 11:02 AM on October 11, 2013
I am all for letting it die out on its own accord, hopefully sooner rather than later, but whatevs. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 6:41 PM on October 4, 2013
An interesting connection (to me anyways) is that the bits and pieces of information emerging about the woman's paranoid delusions don't seem all that different to me from the stream of craziness produced by various Tea Party representatives and supporters.
Kind of tricky to explain to mentally ill people that they aren't being electronically monitored by the government when they actually are.
Yeah, this sort of thing strikes... [more] posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 7:23 PM on October 4, 2013
The other day there was an FPP about hand jobs, and you're complaining about this?
It was complaining about handjobs - Mefites like complaining. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 8:49 PM on September 26, 2013
But what of the melon babies? posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 9:42 PM on September 26, 2013
I am sort of against "mefi shouldn't do this" type stuff, but flagging is mostly better than metas is always better than shitty messages in thread. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 11:51 AM on September 27, 2013
I'd be all for the creation of a set of flags for things that aren't real problems for people who like being upset about things to use, with the flagging data secretly just being thrown away. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 12:23 PM on September 27, 2013
Some people just aren't as pro-murder as you, you're just going to have to live with it. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 1:35 PM on September 18, 2013
Ye gods, this is such an asshole thing for you to say. And it's not the first time you've pulled this shit, either.
Meh. It's not like Americas pro-murder folk aren't getting all the guns amd subsequent deaths they want. Getting called on the shit they support from time to time is nothing. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 2:17 PM on September 18, 2013
Hi, I'm a gun owner. Some of the scenarios and desires of the "pro-carry" contingent in that thread are bizarre and scary to me, and make me question their grasp of reality. Thanks for playing though.
And they are winning. Look at the last few days, look at Geoege Zimmerman free to kill again. Sandy Hook didn't change shit, and of that didn't nothing ever will.
I see no reason to stand back and give polite applause... [more] posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 2:30 PM on September 18, 2013
Yeah, I'm done pretending the NRA are in any way defensible as well. They are about as anti-murder as they are anti-racist. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 2:35 PM on September 18, 2013
I'm not sure how I feel about them branching out into enjoyable movies - then again after 8 Hellraiser movies I guess they deserve it.
My write in request is Event Horizon - the OTHER Hellraiser in Space. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 5:47 PM on August 27, 2013
You can skip Wishmasters 3 and 4 though
That's really not the ethos of the show.
I like to think if they watched the Halloweens it would be watching them especially Season of the Witch. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 6:13 AM on August 28, 2013
They lack the strict logic of the Nughtmare on Elm Street films, it's true. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 6:40 AM on August 28, 2013

Lake Mungo, which I found through an AskMe, did a good job of that. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 11:55 AM on August 28, 2013
Sort of both? TBH I would have prefered it if it hadn't so clearly gone "fuck it, it's Hellraiser now" in the third act. posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 2:45 PM on August 28, 2013
(I would have made the spikes thing a Tillinghast engine and ripped off From Beyond hard - messing with hyperspacial geometry screws up primate perception leading to hallucinations, panic, murder. What's worse it it draws the attention of THINGS from THE OUTSIDE, and you can never turn it off...) posted to MetaTalk by Artwat 2:48 PM on August 28, 2013
