MeTa post: But I don't even like this post!
Apple hatebots on metafilter? Seriously? Apple has a hard time on metafilter like Christians have a hard time on Fox News.

MeTa post: Creepy Dutch TV Host + Paedophilia Thread.
The post was crap, but the link itself isn't the real problem. The problem is all these 'GASP! PEDO!' moonbats. Who might have been smart enough to keep their fucking gobs shut if, as has been suggested, the poster had done his research and made a post with backstory of the video and some derision of the retarded and unjustified controversy over this harmless video.

Some of the posters in that thread... Christ. I mean, talk about xenophobic.

Grow the fuck up.
posted to MetaTalk by The Monkey at 8:18 AM on April 24, 2008
Well this is interesting, cultural differences might be the whole thing. I'm not Dutch, but I'm also not American, so there's another level to it again. But allow me to just say that when I watched the video I pretty much saw what it later turned out I thought I saw - a TV host acting weird and making a kid giggle. So all the "CREEPY" was just out of left field as far as I'm concerned. (Weird isn't necessarily creepy. Not funny isn't necessarily creepy.)... [more]

Actually, I just caught up with the rest of the comments in the thread, and there are some good points providing better context that may reduce or eliminate the squick factor if known before viewing the video.

So would you say that, oh I don't know, perhaps there had been some degree of false panic?

No, that's Dame Silvia Cartwright, our previous governor general. The current one is a fat Indian dude.

Incidentally our last two prime ministers have been women. The current one since 1999. (I'm kind of loathe to count the previous one, as she wasn't actually elected - she rolled the previous leader of her party and took the top spot.)

At one point the speaker of the house, the chief justice, the governor general, and the prime minister were... [more]

Dear Metafilterians,

Metafilter is not a feminist battleground, but if you find a great site that is a feminist battleground, metafilter is the place to post a link to that site.

Cheers,

Ok so maybe there are too many deletions, but don't forget how well our Jess meatholed that moonbat with the "dangerous video". That was awesome, right?

So, bygones.

MeTa post: Fixed that for you.
Maybe instead of editing her comment next time you could just drown her?

I've got a shovel you could borrow when you go to hide the body in the woods.

(It's a good strong shovel, but do wear gloves -- maybe the same ones you wear for the drowning? -- that's a big hole you'll be digging, and the wood will be rough on your paper smoothed skin.)

Dear Jessamyn,

A nice quiet out of the way hole 'neath the boughs of the largest tree in the forest sounds nice. Particularly for the tree which has never before eaten so well.

Please commence with the drowing. They'll all take the hint eventually.

(Althought strictly speaking we shouldn't be having a BBQ until Labor Weekend or later.)
posted to MetaTalk by The Monkey at 4:44 PM on October 10, 2006
It really is too early for BBQs, but no BBQ means no booze.

How great would it be to stand around in the park, in the blustery wind with an occasional passing squall, trying to eat blackened sausages that are perhaps a little too pink in the middle, in the midst of all the uncomfortable silences, wondering if you have anything in common with all these bloody internet nerds.

But hell, at least the beer would stay cold, right?... [more]

I actually really like the idea of allowing no more than 4 questions in a calendar month, as this will slightly reduce the maximum possible number of questions per user, but it would be best to do this in conjunction with the current one per 7 days rule, not instead of it.

This 10 days or 2 weeks thing, it's just a bit too miserly, I think. Though from my own posting history, one per year would appear to be adequate.

So how was it?

(I quite like the Cornwall Park idea as well. Dirty smokey crowded cities seem to do a lot of the bar meetups, so maybe we can do the nice [spring/summer]time in the park green meetups. Also, I'd like to get drunk in the park, eat a lot of sausages and chops, and then walk my dog home (I'm in Epsom, pretty close by to the park).)

I'm with you, frogan, but suspect that you're actually not.

Women are crazy in such weird ways compared to men. I blame that whole cycle thing. Metafilter being what it is though (political "correctness" coming out of its ass) it's a pretty tough question to phrase to get past the dreadmaster general.

Maybe something like, "[MisogynistFilter] Why won't women do what I say, when I say it, without crying all the time?"
posted to MetaTalk by The Monkey at 11:06 PM on August 30, 2006
4.1% certainly isn't bad... But, here in New Zealand it's 3.6%. So. You know. We're even more awesome.

Also, I realise I made a little mistake in my earlier post, allow me to correct it here.

"Why won't women girls do what I say, when I say it, without crying all the time?"

Ahh yes, that's much more comfortable.

Ladies?

I never visit projects, not ever. I think the commenting thing is the reason that I was never turned on to it. On MetaFilter I almost always read the comments in the thread before deciding if I want to look at the links.

The reason I'll probably never visit jobs is because I have a hunch it will settle in to being all (or at least 90%) about friggin' New York and California. Which is pretty useless for people outside those states, let alone for people who are outside... [more]

MeTa post: Could we get a <spoiler> tag?...
Some things are all about the twist. The ending of certain movies, some TV shows, and so on. It's rude to post those on the front page when they're 'current'. Especially on a site that isn't even about god damn movies or TV shows, but about the best sites on the web.

If you want to post links to various Lost community websites and so on, you can easily do so without giving away any twists that happen in the season 2 finale.

How is this so fucking difficult?

Yes, in Auckland, New Zealand.

BBSmates doesn't do us justice (area code 09, but there's at least one Finnish BBS with the same number), we had a pretty busy scene. I remember my BBS list being about 300 (local) numbers long, but of course I settled on just 3 or 4.

Good times, bad for my schooling though. And as soon as I got an internet connection I completely lost interest.
