Wind power from utility poles?
Technical issues are only part of the problem. From a legal/rights/liability POV, the current owners/maintainers of the existing utility poles would probably not like this idea.

What kind of network cable to run underground?
If there's no pull string in your PVC pipe yet, and the pipe run is too long for your available fish tape, you can also use a shop vac (with its hose on the exhaust outlet) to blow fishing line through surprisingly long pipe runs.
Use a cheap plastic funnel (Wal-Mart auto parts) as a shop vac hose adapter on the starting end of the PVC pipe. Insert the funnel in the PVC pipe, and drill a small hole (1/8" or less) in the narrow neck of the funnel, just outside of... [more]

This happened on my (infrequently used) laptop several months ago, but I thought it was a glitch until it appeared on my desktop PC today. I guess it's a new GI feature, albeit a poorly implemented one: much less info is displayed and it takes more work to browse through images.
Where's that universal Revert key when you need it?

IIRC, Greasemonkey scripts work with FireFox but not with Internet Explorer.
Tried disabling Java in IE, but the 'new & improved' GI search results still appear. Even if it worked, switching Java back on for other sites would be a pain.

The Internet Explorer 7 fix explained at srt19170's link also worked with IE6. Thanks!
This Google Groups thread probably has the most pertinent discussion, and apparently has the ear of Google.

Apparently Google Images has changed things back to their original search results. My default browser settings (with Javascript enabled in IE and Firefox) again show pixel sizes and URLs under all thumbnails.

Quiet your mind. A nice, soothing, melodic CD (like Enya's Watermark) works for me. I've listened to the same one for years and am usually out by the second or third song.

How Hard is it to Use a Drain Snake?
A metal coat hanger usually does the job for me.
Same here (drano is a joke).
If your pipes are old and thinned from corrosion, or if cheap replacement fixtures have been installed, coat hangers are a bad idea. I tried this once on a bathroom sink in our first house and poked a hole right through the bottom of the P-trap (now I know how to replace one.)

Water stain on my coffee table
From Sal Marino's Woodworking Page, Removing Water Marks and Rings:Most white marks or rings on furniture are usually left by water or moisture penetrating through the protective finish (varnish, shellac, lacquer etc.) and then getting trapped below the finish. When this happens the finish in that area appears white and looses its transparency.
This usually appears in the shape of a ring and happens on a surface like a tabletop. The... [more]

Whats the best way to remove an iron on?
What Thorzdad said.
Something like acetone, rubbing alcohol, lacquer thinner, or Goof-Off might remove the colored inks (test a little with a Q-Tip), but the iron-on transfer's fusible backing is melted into and around the threads of the fabric itself.
As this sewing tip explains, you might try laying a scrap of clean cotton over the shirt and re-ironing it, but much (if not most) of the fused adhesive will probably... [more]

Unicorn caterpillar
Hawk moths are strong, powerful fliers frequently mistaken for hummingbirds. They play an important role in pollination: in Australia, they're vital to papaya crops. If you ever have the opportuntity to (gently) catch and examine an adult hawk moth, they're quite beautiful.
Although what you have there looks very similar to a Tobacco Hornworm—at home in Colorado, BTW—I think your Australian variety is the larva of the Grapevine Hawk Moth, aka Hippotion... [more]

How can I stop a bird from playing on my car and leaving its crap all over?
Things could be worse: you could live in wine country (an overview of general bird control techniques). Consider four and twenty redbirds baked in a pan:Actually, Dick Erath of Erath Vineyards Winery in Dundee, Oregon once tried the kill-the-birds method. Years ago, Erath hired some local kids to shoot the birds. Erath said he "paid a bounty of 25 cents per robin and that ended my robin problem for a long time." What's the best way to keep a cake from going stale?
We use square and rectangular glass Pyrex baking dishes with snap-on plastic covers. Various sets of these can be found at Target, Wal-Mart, etc.
Bake the cake in the pan, spread on frosting (the sole reason for cake is to merely support the frosting), put on the plastic cover, and refrigerate. The molded cover is slightly domed to stay off the frosting, it seals better than plastic wrap or foil, and you can set lightweight items on top of the covered pan when it's in... [more]
