Emos Hunted
I was in Buenos Aires about 3 weeks ago, and the big news was a brawl between emos (or darks as theyre called down there) and chets (basically preps or jocks in BsAs slang) in the big downtown shopping mall.

La Vida de Vagabundos Americanos
They look so good because they come from good middle/upper class families and choose to be "vagabundos". Every year they descend on richmond as soon as it gets warm out and start panhandling. They are the worst people, pieces of shit who think that they're experiencing "real life" when most of them probably have college funds and health insurance that's just a phone call away. Crust punk train hoppers, die.
I totally understand the need to have an... [more]

This article was FASCINATING. I wonder if the parana communicate emotions at all? Obviously they understand the concept of laughter, the New Yorker article talks about them staying up all night, talking and laughing, but do they tell their children that they love them or show them affection? Do they get angry with each other, if they do - how do they resolve the conflicts? Violence? Talking? Something else? I also wonder about the structure of the society, is there a single chieftain or are... [more]

"The woman sat up straighter. She looked the man in the eye."
Oprah gets a couple of interesting things out of McCarthy: his extreme poverty, the fact that he doesn't particularly care that he's writing blockbusters, he went to school under the GI Bill, he has a son, why he punctuates the way he does, luck/laws of probability. McCarthy gets into what they're talking about and then Oprah says something like "You are sure different from other authors!" and he shuts right up. I wasn't surprised at all when he said that he used to hang with poker... [more]

If they did they did that, we'd be talking about the only South American Motilone Priest ever accepted by the savage indigenous natives of Europe. Welcome to Earth lupus NOBODY is minding their own business and staying home, ever.

Cormac McCarthy
I don't really anything meaningful to contribute to this conversation except that cormac mccarthy is the greatest author I've ever read. I randomnly picked up blood meridian off the shelf of an airport bookstore (!!!) when I was in high school, and it changed my life. I have the road sitting on the table in front of me waiting for me to pick it up, but I have to wait a little bit and brace myself for what I'm sure is going to be soul crushing read.

Argentina On Two Steaks A Day
What the article doesn't mention is that the steak dinner costs about $35 pesos (or $12 dollars), you would pay 10 times that for an inferior steak in the US. I've only been home from Argentina 3 weeks and just looking at those pictures makes my mouth water...

Well, redteam pretty much summed it up - but let add a little bit more. The article, and many commentators have said things like "I can't say it enough", "It sounds like I'm overemphasizing", etc... when talking about how good argentinian steak is. This same principle can be allowed the argentinian women. I kept telling everybody I knew that Centro in Buenos Aires had more hot girls than LA, NYC, London and Paris combined (I've been to all of them...). They're all skinny... [more]
